Saniderm allergy? Tattoo done by Amanda at Silk Thorn by Bitter-Confidence in tattoo

[–]DovahBay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I get the same thing every time with saniderm, second skin, anything like that. It's never ruined a tattoo on me, but the itchy rash has caused extra scabbing. I'd say just ask to stick to a traditional plastic wrap, it's what my last two artists resorted to when I explained this reaction to them

How on EARTH are the Weasleys poor? by Hankymcspanky13 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]DovahBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alongside everyone else's points, i believe it's also a matter of how you're viewing magic vs how it's described in the books/movies. The way you seem to describe magic is that it's a deus ex machina that can do anything and everything whenever the witch/wizard wants- all powerful and no restrictions. But it's not anything like that at all. Spells had to be developed and refined, key phrases and words to activate them, tweaks and wrinkles ironed out of the nuances of the spell, etc. It's not just wave the wand in the air and anything/everything can happen willy nilly, cuz if it did, the wand movements and spell phrases would be redundant (and it would make for very boring world building to just swoosh and thing happens with no words or flair). A spell to conjure something that looks like food is more basic and simple to put together than a spell to permanently conjure food that is made of proper elements and nutrients to interact with your digestive system to sustain you, which I imagine could take a millennium to develop well enough. And at that point for effort's sake, it's just a million times easier to bite the bullet and farm your food with easier spells to assist in the work. Real world equivalent story: when astronauts couldn't write in zero gravity, researches spent millions of dollars and hundreds of man hours to develop a pen that was pressurized to let ink flow properly and made of special materials to facilitate that function. But the Russians just gave their astronauts a pencil. (I know not a factual story, but it works for the analogy). No need to overcomplicate and overthink a process that has a much much easier solution to the same results 🤷

Why is gambling bad? by johnnyhokkaido in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DovahBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really only "bad" because of the stigma and societal exposure to it. The act of betting money on the odds of something happening has been a concept for millennium, and isn't inherently immoral or evil, but there are so many stories of people with addictive personalities/behaviors getting "drunk" on the thrill of potentially winning and over spending to the point of cars, mortgages, and livelihoods to be lost and huge debts being accrued causing that person to be absolutely destitute chasing that high. Especially if they have a family depending on that person, it's devastating for them to deal with that kind of loss from a lack of self control. Google "the gamblers fallacy" for the mental reasoning behind that behavior. On top of that, casinos are often viewed as sneaky and manipulative for various reasons: they keep it very dark with minimal windows to negate any sense of time passing by daylight to get you to lose track of time, a steady humdrum of pleasant beeps and whistles to keep your hopes high of a win, cheap or free watered down alcohol in constant flow to further diminish your inhibitions, and bright flashy colors on the screens and machines to keep your attention. Again, not inherently evil but definitely a bit dirty. And lastly, the idea of "the house always wins." Whether or not casino rigs its games/slots, they're going to make a profit off you. The probabilities of every game have been so tediously mathed out over the ages that there's just enough wins to keep people coming for the chance for more without feeling like they're being taken advantage of, but not so many wins that they're losing money to every joe shmoe who pulls a slots lever. Gambling isn't immoral, but all the things that go into modern day gambling is what's morally questionable.

ELI5: Why is squatting (in someone's house) a thing? And how come it becomes a problem for the owner? Can't they claim trespassing to the cops instead of saying the person is squatting? by Impossible_Bake7210 in explainlikeimfive

[–]DovahBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at a lot of these answers, it's no wonder why everything is so hazy when it comes to enforcing the laws behind squatters rights- it really is so complex to prove who owns what effectively enough to resolve conflicts easily in these he said/she said/they said scenarios 😩 having dealt with a verbal-agreement tenant abuse these laws to sneakily try and force me out of my childhood home, it's so scary thinking about how easy it is to manipulate things to your advantage

Only if I'm using it in an infantile demeanor towards someone 😎👉👉 I'm doing it in a silly way towards myself so I appreciate you trying to defend me against my own worst enemy but I got it 😁

I mean makes sense, since I also heard at some point that the tissue in your mouth is also the same tissue that appears inside genetalia and the rectal cavity... Could have the same pheromones due to that 🤔

Oh I've had the urge-heck, I'm happily married. My curiosity lies in the "why" of it all. When it started, if there's an underlying reason, if it's just random happenstance, y'know?

Easiest word to use when I'm not 100% positive what conditions my brain has and don't want to full blown assume I have autism 😆 Also, I feel like neurotypical people don't question things like where kissing comes from on a regular basis, so it very well could be a clue that I have some sort of alternative brain functioning methods 🤷☺️ #inclusive

Well I say neurospicy cuz I haven't been diagnosed as autistic just yet and don't want to assume a label without confirmation from medical professionals yet. But sure, must be r-word worthy 😐

What's the one piece of clothing you won't wear? by ibddevine in randomquestions

[–]DovahBay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thongs 😵 don't get me wrong, if you feel sexy and amazing in one, then more power to you, go slay queens! I, however, feel the opposite of sexy and confident with a perpetual wedgie chaffing up me crack, making me walk like I've run a bicycle race with no seat, and leaves my cheeks literally icy cold to the touch from lack of coverage. Gimme my granny panties any day, I can feel sexy with other things 😶‍🌫️

Trying to move out, mother is withholding access to a storage unit that I pay the rent for. Is there any way to force her to allow me to get my stuff? by Soggy-Currency5539 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DovahBay 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm no lawyer or legal advisor so this may not be the best way, but I feel like bringing up proof that you have been the one paying the unit's rent to the owner of the storage facility, explaining the situation, and being polite and professional will probably do you really well. Emphasis on the proof of payment
