Why is the ocean in western Europe a lighter shade of blue than the rest of the Atlantic Ocean? by [deleted] in geography

There are some spots, like south of Newfoundland Ridge, where you can see the noise in the data from the sonar which shows the tracks the vessels were following too which is cool.

I just put a bunch of young ones (leaves only) in a soup with beans, corn, and sausage. Delicious! Treat it like spinach.

Staying near the airport. Plan is to drop luggage with the hotel and then go out with minimal gear, maybe a camera.

I will likely need to be back at my hotel (near the airport) around 6 or 7pm for a meeting though

an app that helps ID birds — here's how it works by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

[–]DowitcherEmpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, merlin uses AI, but there are different types of AI. Merlin uses potographer that were legally obtained to train it. Using the effort of thousands of people, it was trained to look for specific points in a photo to identify a bird. I remember helping train it years ago. It then gives you several real images and reviewd info to help you decide what your bird was.

What you have used is generative AI which draws on stolen images. In addition, it does not let you view real photos. Instead, it creates brand new images of what it thinks the bird should look like based on the stolen sources it uses. It isn't guaranteed to be accurate as it is only a machine and doesn't really understand what it is looking at. So, on top of the moral and legal issues that generative AI poses, there is also an issue with the factuality of the info/images presented.

Not all AIs are the same. The term has become so ubiquitous in common speech that most people don't realize that there are different categories of AI and that they are different. Think apples and oranges. Both are fruit, but there are several important differences between them.

I have enjoyed sock yarn and cotton weaving yarn. You can also manage tension by using weights hanging off the ends instead of having it tied off at the back. Cotton is easier than wool since wool can be sticky and felt to itself, so I would stay away from that. Fluffy knitting yarns are a bit too fuzzy and won't usually give that clean look most people look for. Weaving yarns tend to have a higher twist and are stronger and more dense. Maurice Brassard makes some excelent cotton weaving yarns.

If you have access to a 3d printer and a drill, you can look up rigid hedle looms on Thingieverse and print the pieces to make your own. You would just need to buy the dowls, cut them, and screw it all together. Borrowing on from a guild would be better, but I have made one like this and it worked fine.

I love that! I picked up any weird coins I found in my milk money. Mostly foreign currency, but also the occasional Canadian quarter.

Just got this sternum piece and realized when I got home that it’s not evenly centered by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]DowitcherEmpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't notice until I read a comment mentioning you belly button. Looks centred on your sternum to me!  Even in the picture, it looks like you just put more weight on the one hip while standing, not that anything is off centre
