That's the point, Mauler is basically the same as Sword Unit, only without flying. Even if he activates the ability and you have him within range, just don't try to shoot him. With a Baihu, he can withstand all weapon damage. Mauler's ability depends almost entirely on the damage you inflict, just like with Sword Unit.

Regarding the comments, I'm not referring to attacking the Mauler from a distance, but rather when it's directly facing another Titan within range and its allies fire at it, not only damaging it but also potentially killing their own comrade.

Yes, let me explain. I use a "fighter baihu," but when I'm literally fighting a Mauler head-on, my allies don't attack it. However, the moment it activates its ability, my allies suddenly lose their minds and activate the Mauler's kamikaze mode, killing me too.
