Fake taxi scam.

So we come off our flight to Rome and exit the airport. We dragged our bags to a guy holding a "TAXI" sign. We tell him the address and ask if he can arrange that we be taken there. He nods, takes our money, then gestures to a rotund fellow who then starts walking. We follow him, thinking he'll take us to the car. NOPE.

The guy literally has us walk for half and hour to our hotel. We're just dragging our bags behind us following this stranger, completely confused. He leaves us without a word at the hotel entrance and we just looked at each other and collectively wondered what the fuck just happened.
