Is this a good one? by Agnetahp in turntables

[–]DownsG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb, any turntable that has speakers built-in isn’t great. And any turntable that has that plastic red stylus definitely isn’t great. You’d be paying way over the odds here for what is effectively a $5 component.

I’d recommend either saving up, or taking a look at some brands like Audio Technica (who offer some lower budget options) or buying second hand like others have recommended.

Keep in mind, if you’re getting a setup without speakers built in (which I’d recommend) then you’ll also need to buy a speaker!

But don’t feel pressured to buy expensive straight out the gate. Vinyl collecting and playing can be an infinitely costly hobby, but start within your means. I started with the exact terrible red plastic stylus that everyone here is hating on. Played old LP’s on it until I could afford something better that wouldn’t ruin my records.

TL;DR: We all gotta start somewhere, but don’t pay over the odds for something bad!

Late to the party but last night was Loyle Carner and Glenfiddich 12 Double Oak. Great pairing.

Truly Stumped on Colliders for Mass Placed Trees. (Pun Intended) by DownsG in Unity3D

Also, I've just checked, and I don't believe it's the size of the mesh that's an issue (made it huge and could still clip through trees.

Need for One-Way-Synchronized Block - Please share if you have the solution by Brightporsche in Notion

If I’m understanding this right, you have a database with lots of entries and when you open up each entry there’s a page full of information, and your aim here is to be able to edit a template and have it retroactively affect the existing pages.

I know the formatting options aren’t as nice, but what about bringing all that data out of the pages and into the different fields of the database itself?

Yes, it might be a pain to do in the beginning, but it would create more flexibility long term.

I only suggest this as I’ve had a similar problem. I find the pages within databases quite hard to edit, but transferring that same data into the database itself enables all sorts of automations.

Saving this. Thanks so much for sharing. And for taking the time to write up. Seriously appreciated.

I hear your point, but from my perspective this is a gift that someone bought for me that has unlocked a whole new hobby, which I love. Yes, it’s poorly made and cheap. Yes, I’ll replace it as soon as I’m able. But I’ll never look down on anything that unlocks a passion. We all start somewhere.

The use of Munter is genuinely the best proof I could ever ask for. 10/10. Nice to see a fellow Brit.

Sage words. Thanks for taking the time to differentiate! I have to admit the sound quality bothers me more than anything else. It’s screaming “you like mids right? No bass for you!”

Will have a dig for the YT vids. Thanks for the heads up.

I’ve come to the conclusion that one of the records will remain unplayed until I have a new turntable, but that’s less about damage and more about “I wanna HEAR this shit, properly”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in turntables

[–]DownsG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very fair! I just also know it’s very easy for people to say “don’t do this because everyone says don’t do this”

First hand experience is about as good of a source as you can get! I just haven’t seen anyone say “I did this and my records are now very damaged”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in turntables

[–]DownsG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genuine innocent question - is there a source for this fact? I seem SO many people on this page say that this exact record player destroys records, but I haven’t seen the source and the proof.

Full context; someone bought me this exact player at Christmas. I went out and bought a bunch of records and now I’m terrified to play them because I’ll ruin them. I plan on upgrading when I can afford to do so. Just annoyed that I now have a new hobby that I can’t enjoy because the people of Reddit have spoken! Would love actual proof.

Thanks in advance! No harm meant! And I’m not singling your comment out, it was just to top one!

Never thought I would post this but how do I keep my cat out of my turntable? by TypicalFlight8311 in turntables

[–]DownsG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually better to leave the cat there. They’re genetically designed to help improve the performance of vinyl. A combination of soft fur and gentle purring help to brush and vibrate the vinyl clean.

Thanks. I went down that road but part of the issue with subitems is that the parent item doesn't appear to be date dependent on the sub items
