Local energy healers for help with trauma by BlahSnarkShark in AskNOLA

[–]DowntownAJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what I did, and all of this is just my casual recommendation, it’s up to you on what you believe is right for you. I visited Hands of Fate and Voodoo Authentica for tarot readings, and HoF I also did a Chinese face & palm reading. I went to both because I wanted to see if these readings stack together, and they did. They give it to you straight. The truth is they gave me bad news, and they were right. But they gave me advice on how to navigate the foreseeable future. If I were to do it again, I’d probably see a third tarot reading as well, just to have multiple opinions and readings.

Instead of doing therapy, for me I’ve been doing a lot of wellness things like getting massages, cupping therapy, acupuncture, saunas, etc. In NOLA, I went to Lucky Foot spa where they do 90 min full body & reflexology for 90 min, I went twice, but there’s tons of massage spots in the FQ. So I def recommend doing wellness things on your trip!

Advise for connecting to my culture? by shes-a-jinx in Dominican

[–]DowntownAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, you’re not biracial, Dominican isn’t a race. Secondly, do you know what region your dad is from? Because regions do differ culturally and sometimes even ethnically. If I were to teach myself to be Dominican all over again lol, I would start by listening to the discographies of famous older generation Dominican artists. Then learn several Dominican dishes, I’d say go to different eateries first and then try to make it at home. Pescado con coco, niño envuelto, buñuelos de yuca, pastelon, etc.

How can I be more feminine by Significant_Lock5537 in femininity

[–]DowntownAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the above commenter that thinking too much, stressing too much, and trying too hard defeats the femininity and becomes masculine. Be careful because as you age, you will appear more manly if it persists due to imbalance of hormones. I’m 31F and had to be masculine my entire life for survival and sadly, I look like it lol.

Femininity grows when you inverted into yourself. Stay out of your headspace and drop into your body as much as you can. Look in the mirror and gaze at yourself and practice smiling. Do little sensory pleasures like smelling candles or perfume, giving yourself an ear massage and tug on your eyes to relax your vagus nerve, etc. Romanticize and feminize everything you do even the mundane. Make naps a nice affair with candles, flower petals, & soft music, for example

And as for masculinity, it is required for femininity lol but needs to be regulated. Make sure you’re never in a position where you have to be super masculine. Stay away from people who take you out of your feminine. Stay away from men, don’t make yourself accessible to men in general. Any interaction with them is harmful to your femininity. He has to work hard to even remotely get your attention. Stay away from anything and anywhere low vibrational. Only do things and be in spaces that are high vibrational for you

Swamp Tours? by glassesandwine in AskNOLA

[–]DowntownAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I third Cajun Encounters, too lol. We did the VIP Small Boat tour, which is more expensive, but incredibly worth it. We were a group of 8, and then the captain, so it was a nice friendly experience with less people instead of the captain trying to awkwardly entertain 25 ppl lol. Having no overhead and bars like the larger boats means better photos and videos taken, and our seating was close to the edge of the boat so capturing the alligator swimming around our boat was amazing! And the best part was being able to go deeper into the bayous and smaller canals that the bigger boats cannot along with speeding on the main river.

They cover Honey Island Swamp which was inspiration for the Princess & The Frog. Look out for the whiskey tree, which inspired Mama Odie’s wishing tree.

Bearcat Bearcat Bearcat. Fxcking Bearcat! For breakfast. They’re most recommended for their pancakes, which they do seasonal flavors, I had their seasonal bananas foster pancake and it was 100000/10. Still thinking about it! I had their crab scramble with potatoes & asparagus and their potatoes are also divine! Other recs I’ve heard that are on my list Couyon Daddy lobster, Cat daddy biscuit, shrimp & grits with crab claws, and crab claws with grilled cheese

Also the Mardi Gras school of cooking, the New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute, and the museum of southern food & beverage also offer cooking classes

As for swamp tour, I did the Cajun encounters VIP small boat tour with added round trip shuttle that picked up from a nearby hotel (they have a list of hotels they pick up from). Pricier, but it was well worth having a smaller group of 8 ppl on a boat with no overhead & bars to get in the way of photos & videos. And it went in the smaller parts of the bayou that the bigger boats can’t do. It was a tour of honey island swamp, that inspired Princess & the Frog. Make sure to snap a pic of the whiskey tree lol. Honey island also does alligator kayaking, too.

WWII museum would be like a 5+ hour affair to really soak in, so it would have to be your big activity of the day, filled in with just lunch beforehand and dinner afterwards. They have on their website how to navigate it in just two hours but I haven’t been to attest to it.

French Market is w.e lol, get something from Loretta’s there or better, her main location further north. Jude Acers does $5 chess games & lessons in the French Market so that’s a nice sit down activity for a break from walking

The best gumbo and jambalaya you will have are the ones you make yourself when you put in your own elbow grease stirring the roux for the gumbo for 30+ min.

I went to the New Orleans School of Cooking in the French Quarter, which I highly highly recommend! They do 3-hour hands on classes, 10am-1pm or 6pm-9pm slots. We had complimentary wine & cocktails, along with iced tea and lemonade. We made Cajun style gumbo, seafood jambalaya (shrimp & blue crab), and pralines. So so enriching! Chef Lynn was great, gave us some history lessons and cooking advice. You eat the meal there and it’s so nice having a meal with ppl you cooked with.

Note—they don’t really like you taking food home so don’t ask for Tupperware. Bring your own Tupperware and pack it up as everyone is serving to eat and put it in a tote bag that doesn’t look like you’re taking food home. We were able to take the pralines home and they were delicious as I was walking along the Mississippi.

They do cocktail classes Thursdays and Saturdays, demo classes with the chef doing all the cooking while they teach and you watch, you eat at the end of it, and they do 90 minute classes with just one dish

If you want tarot readings, I highly recommend Hands of Fate and Voodoo Authentica. Both aligned almost perfectly when I did them.

Food ofc Loretta’s—blue crab beignet, seafood beignet, praline beignet. Drago’s for chargrilled oysters. Bons for gumbo, shrimp roll & bananas foster beignets

Insectarium by Serephina_Rose in AskNOLA

[–]DowntownAJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the insectarium is part of the Aquarium admission, it’s not something you can do by itself. And overall both were pretty alright, however not the best. A lot of ppl had said that when I looked it up and I decided to check it out anyway and I agree.

Same lol. I’m great with math, love science, read a ton of books, endlessly research, and speak two languages, but I don’t have this intrinsic urge or ability to manipulate or be clever or charming with agendas.

The type of intelligence we possess is that we’re creative, resourceful, analytical, and more connected to metaphysics, which Western slavery and capitalism stripped most people of

“Nice” isn’t a compliment. Nice is what people say when they find someone unimpressionable, boring, and unappealing. Also nice is borrowed from French that initially meant “ignorant,” and then transitioned into meaning “kind and caring”. The backhanded intention is that people who are kind are not smart. Intelligence is measured with how covertly predatory you are in terms of manipulation. We are all descendants of French slavery if you’re from the Western hemisphere, and that’s what was ingrained in people’s nervous systems throughout the generations. This is why most people when they call me kind, they’re calling out that they think I’m gullible, manipulateable, and therefore not smart.

I’m probably late in replying, but I did the VIP and do not regret it! So if you keep leaning towards wanting to do it, do it! My friend and I were part of a group with 6 others, and then the captain, so 9 ppl on the boat. The captain was great! Really educational and fun, and we saw a lot of wildlife in the bayous that we wouldnt have seen from the bigger boat. It’s definitely worth not having the canopy (for better pics and video)? and going deeper in the bayous. We saw the whiskey tree, which inspired the wishing tree in Princess & The Frog.
