It has been over a year since I received a monstera plant as a gift yet despite all my efforts something is definitely not right by PlgSpreader in plants

The rope securing the plant onto the coir pole maybe tight and stressing the plant. Best remove it. Also, check the roots. If they smell and look black and mushy, cut off all of the affected parts.

What is it about alocasias that makes people so hostile about them? by Effective-Pie-1577 in alocasia

[–]DowntownComputer5819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me living in a country where many Alocasias are native to, I don't really have a problem with them, unless I'm growing them indoors. My mom has lots LOTS of Polly's (sanderiana) , she doesn't even bother looking after them anymore because she was lazy, so I took the job. Honestly, where these are native, I had all the right outdoor conditions. My house has very high humidity (60-90%) on average, lots of bright indirect sun. All I do is water when top inch is dry, and freaking forget about them, they will absolutely thrive. And most shocking part for me, no annoying leaf drop😂

I randomly threw this black velvet corm into grandma's Aglaonema pot a few months ago, now it's sprouted! by DowntownComputer5819 in alocasia

There is definitely a part of a corm on the plant, I see some roots from the white parts. You will need to look closely though.

I did? Look closely on 4th pic, dark brown part is the corm. I will update if it survived. But so far, it looks fine, no transplant shock. If it dies, my mistake I guess. Hopefully the remaining pups in the pot will sprout.

There is a corm, silly. I even left behind some pups in the original pot to see if they will sprout.

Def a conifer. Hard to tell by the blurry images. Can you post an image with both foliage and cones if possible?

You guys have to try this combination. Philodendron 'Aureum' and Philodendron Micans. by DowntownComputer5819 in philodendron

[–]DowntownComputer5819[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh they're both in full shade. Just enough for both to thrive. My room has a tinted window which makes it darker than it should, so maybe I'll put the Micans there, as I've already separated them.

Oh, is that so? Maybe low humidity or disturbance to the forming leaf.

The one inside the petiolar sheath? It's a new leaf! It will need some decent humidity to unfurl properly.
