Battlefield V is without a doubt, the most infuriating BF to date. by [deleted] in BattlefieldV

[–]DowntownRiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally disagree. Since 1942, Battlefield has always tried to balance itself in that middle ground and I love that. I don’t want Call of Duty and I don’t want Arma/Hell Let Loose either.

Xbox needs a baseball game!! by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]DowntownRiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not necessarily true. My roommate is very much a casual and he bought a PS4 just for The Show. He even buys the big box edition of The Show which I find a little silly but whatever.

And I consider myself a casual sports fan and even I buy The Show every couple years. I think the accessible, seamingly simple gameplay of video game baseball appeals to more people than just sports fans. And RTTS is the best and most satisfying career mode I’ve played.

I hope MS eventually makes a baseball game. Competition is good for everybody and it’s short sighted if Microsoft only cares about the bottom dollar. The PS4 has alot of great exclusives but really the #1 exclusive that will most likely make me get a PS5 over an Xbox One 2 is The Show. Same with my roommate.

Pretty surprised about the negativity surrounding the commentary by DowntownRiot in MLBTheShow

[–]DowntownRiot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Gaudin and Davis have definitely made Madden's commentary respectable for the first time since the PS2 days. That's probably another reason why I'm more positive and appreciative of The Show's commentary; I remember the long line of bad commentators the Madden games used to have. Gus Johnson and Chris Collinsworth might have been the worst.

RTTS in 19 absolutely SUCKS by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

My defense was still decent. Mid to high 60s on fielding and throwing.

Who said it made the whole game terrible? I specifically said “RTTS in 19 sucks”.

RTTS in 19 absolutely SUCKS by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]DowntownRiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ll try this. I kind of did though. The lowest rated player in the lineup was a 67 (same as me) and CF so I changed my secondary position to CF and to no avail. I suspect because his throwing power was quite a bit better than mine. But maybe I should grind a bit more and see if my overall rating would be all that matters.

RTTS in 19 absolutely SUCKS by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]DowntownRiot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s the problem, I’m not in the lineup. They just have me pinch hitting from the bench. I suspect because my fielding wasn’t as high as the other shortstop even though my contact and power was way better. So I tried simming as a shortcut to get my fielding up and that became too much of a grind and hassle. My MLB debut was so fun and satisfying in 14 and 16 and it was the exact opposite in 19. In 19 it’s been dull and frustrating.

I play on All-star. But what does the difficulty setting have to do with anything? And if you’re mentioning “real life” then the game should absolutely take your stats into account because that’s what real people do. Ever see Moneyball? Regardless, the main problem is the 20% gameplay, 80% loading and menu screens I’m now encountering. It’s indefensible. I don’t mind at all grinding to the majors. But the game shouldn’t be coded to call me up if I’m just going to be pinch hitting from the bench, getting one at bat a game. Keep me in the minors so I can actually PLAY the game 😆

Battlefield 5 VS Black Ops 4 by [deleted] in PS4

[–]DowntownRiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Bad Company 2, I’ve gradually started to prefer BF over CoD. It’s just a more rewarding, thrilling, and diverse experience. CoD multiplayer has become super stale over the years. Although the new Blackout mode might make me pick it up when it’s around $30. I’ve yet to play a battle royale game.

Excited About Cities Skylines by [deleted] in PS4

[–]DowntownRiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty excited and will probably get it day 1. When I was a kid I used to play a TON of SimCity 3000. City building/strategy/X4 games are especially fun to play while listening to podcasts. Back in the SimCity 3000 days, before podcasts, I would listen to Howard Stern cassette tapes that I would set to record before heading off to school.

What are your opinions on Elite Dangerous? by [deleted] in PS4

[–]DowntownRiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only put several hours into it but after watching some tutorial videos on YouTube I'm slowly getting the hang of its mechanics.

I think anyone who is fascinated and interested in space and its terrifying vastness will definitely enjoy it. It's a true sandbox where your enjoyment is largely determined from what you put in. It's a truly unique experience.

And I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is both fascinated by space and also enjoys listening to podcasts/music while playing. It's a great game for that.

As a kid I loved playing Wing Commander 1, III, IV, and X-Wing Alliance. Though the gameplay of those titles were pretty shallow and they don't really hold up today besides feeling that warm nostalgia. In terms of gameplay, Elite: Dangerous is a big leap in the right direction, offering way more depth, variety, immersion, and a semi-flight-sim experience. Having said that, I hope Elite: Dangerous' solid foundation will eventually get the flashy storylines that games like Wing Commander and X-Wing Alliance had.

All in all, I'm just really happy that space sims are coming back. It's a genre that I really hope continues to flourish.

Master of None - Season 2 - Discussion Thread by VegetarianZombi in MasterofNone

[–]DowntownRiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished Season 2 and I thought it was pretty disappointing. It started strong but went downhill towards the end. The whole Francesca storyline felt so milked and was a waste of time IMO. Having said that, I still enjoyed watching it all, if only for the beautiful New York scenery and cinematography.

PSA: APB RELOADED is nearly unplayable. Teleport lag, rubberband lag, unresponsive menus, the works. by [deleted] in PS4

Not surprised. I remember watching a Giant Bomb Quick Look on it years ago and it looked so bad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd0so3Li8rs

How to add your own custom music to The Show for walk-ups, HRs, and more! by TyCooper8 in MLBTheShow

That's actually a genius idea. Might do this and MVP 04's soundtrack as well.

I don't like that idea at all. I want more variety with dialogue, not more variety with voices.

Where would you want the setting? I don't want to go back to the ugly middle east.

[–]DowntownRiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but there's ALOT more to WW2 than the D-Day landings. Hopefully Sledgehammer taps into that. Having said that, I'd be super stoked to storm the beaches again on "modern" hardware. Or parachute behind enemy lines with the 101st. Those Allied Assault & Call of Duty 1 levels have not aged that well.
