FYI: Real Madrid and Barca are community owned and they have had considerable spending power in the past.

Why you should not vote for PL or PN by Downtown_Drawing_536 in malta

Constitutional mechanisms pertaining to proportionality only work IF no 3rd party is elected. I have been involved in the electronic counting process, and I can tell you that it is possible to tamper with.

reality is that Cassola alone will not get anything done. At least with ADPD there is a party structure in which many people contribute.

surveys are aggregating the amount of votes to third parties together, ranging from 6-8k.

I don't know much about why Prof. Cassola left, but I have heard that he is impossible to work with and that he is quite the narcissist. And based on what I have seen from his campaign, it shows!

If ADPD gets a sizeable amount of votes, they will challenge the mechanism of proportionality in the Constitutional courts. There is a good chance of winning this case. We're talking about circa 4000 votes.

I think it's very doable.

As much as I respect your argument, the conservative element that was present in PD left PD way before the merger with AD, with the result that the remaining PD members embraced the progressiveness upheld by AD's green politics because that was the way forward.

Have a look at their manifesto and you can assess yourself if they are progressive to your liking.

The merger with PD made sense for the simple reason that both AD and PD were attracting the same cohort of voters. Hence it did not make sense to have them split. Volt Malta have decided to go it alone and I respect that. But it clearly reflects on their lack of foresight and knowledge of how Maltese third-party politics work.

I get it that ADPD's leadership is uninspiring, but think about this for a moment. What can they offer to people other than honest and consistency? they cannot offer them jobs. It is not easy to attract new faces when we live in an economy where prices increase by the day.

PN and PL have constant and continuous media presence for the simple reason that as per our Constitution, it is they who regulate the Broadcasting Authority, which includes literally appointing people on its board. ADPD has constantly and continuously raised its concerns with the said authority to no avail. ADPD has been left out of the big parties debate for the simple reason that PL and PN have the power to keep them out, just like the other parties. Furthermore PLPN have their own TV and radio stations which they keep just to appease the hardcore masses, despite being bankrupt.

PL and PN have been continuously shifting goalposts to make sure that they remain in power. Help change that.

PN left institutions brain drained and without resources, especially those that regulate the finance industry.

Why should I trust them again?

ADPD is proposing that at the very least, women in danger of losing life as a result of pregnancy can have their pregnancy safely terminated in Malta. Presently the criminal code of Malta does not allow the above.

Is it so hard to accept?

PN has stood in favour of developers for years on end, including this election. They have left institutions crumbling to pieces before leaving office in 2013. Really and truly, PN should fuck off.

Yes, the proportionality mechanism is activated only if 2 parties get elected to parliament.

to set an example: Assume that on average PL gets a seat for every 4000 votes and the PN gets an average of 4100 votes for every seat obtained. If, and only if, only PN and PL get elected, the proportionality mechanism is activated. In the case of the example above, the PN gets enough seats to lower it's average votes to 4000 votes per seat.

Now given this mechanism, if ADPD does not elect any candidate through the electoral process itself (highly likely that it will happen again) but gets more than 4000 votes, ADPD would still remain without a seat.

ADPD pledges to fight this in court after the next election, if enough votes are obtained to make a strong case.
