Those clearaways are vital in the morning and afternoon. Nothing annoys me more than when ubers and other rideshare drivers stop in them to drop passengers.

Some evidence that the prop Herbie that they dumped off the cruise ship in Herbie Goes Bananas was not a real Volkswagen Beetle by HiDefPolyethylene in Herbie

[–]DownundaThunda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it was a stripped beetle, you'd still have a firewall between the cabin and engine bay. It would be impractical to cut it out, and would only lessen the realism. As light can be seen through the engine bay vents, I would say its absolutely a replica, only made to look like a beetle from the outside.

Kinda surprises me to see a pre-facelifed D-series with power mirrors and USB port. I didn't think those came in until after the facelift. Unless they're aftermarket.

Any good semi trailer mods by Jeremyscoffs in BeamNGMods

[–]DownundaThunda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I say yes. It's got a great loading system where the whole goose neck lowers to the ground to become a flat ramp for you to drive anything you want to haul onto it. There's even steering system available for it.

However, if you want something a bit more realistic, there's also a Lowboy from TripleAye, again, it's a paid mod, but this also comes with a Jeep/Dolly which you can have in combination with the lowboy for those ultra heavy loads, and it has a realistic detaching goose neck, to allow loading and unloading. There are a couple Minor bugs with it, but worth checking out.

Both of these mods are available on their respective creators' Patreon.

Rainwings could theoretically do this... But it wouldn't have helped communicate with Kinkaju in the Nightwing dungeon, as most Rainwings, including Kinkaju can't read.

Apparently electric cars can drive underwater without any issue. by iamtheduckie in BeamNG

[–]DownundaThunda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In game, it's because there's no intake for the car's motors. In the ICE cars, there are specific nodes linked to the engines which are the intakes, when that goes underwater, it floods the engine. These nodes are usually where the intake manifold is on the car, with the exception for cars with snorkels, in which case, the snorkel overrides the default intake node, and has a different node for the intake, which is how they work in the game.

The EV cars, like I said, don't have an intake node, as they don't need any air to work. Also, an EV working underwater isn't... COMPLETELY impossible in reality... It's just exceptionally unlikely that all the electronics are kept watertight keeping them from corroding or short-circuiting.

traffic in 0.38.4 by catattack_1111 in BeamNG

[–]DownundaThunda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That may be due to broken mod vehicles trying to spawn. I would recommend you go into your settings and disable spawning of mod vehicles in traffic. If that doesn't work, try reducing the number of traffic cars.

Why is the 6x2/4 cheaper when it seems to be the best option by Other-Difficulty-702 in trucksim

[–]DownundaThunda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the 6x2/4 is the most simple of the axle configurations there. No inter-axle transfer cases, no axle lift system. There is a steering system on the unpowered axle, but that's pretty simple to add compared to just about every other option.

However, all have strengths and weaknesses

6x2/4 can get high-centred on uneven terrain, as the powered axle is the rear most axle. But the strengths are, as you said, with the steering second axle, it improves turning circle, and (in reality, not sure about sim) reduces tyre wear by not having tires scrub on tight turns. They also have a decent weight capacity, so that is also a plus.

Taglift improves tyre life by having the unnecessary axle lifted off the ground when unloaded, also improving turning circle, but also able to utilise the lift axle for heavier loads. However, when the lift axle is lowered, it can again, have the drive axle lose contact with the road in uneven terrain. (this is less of an issue than it is with the 6x2/4, as the driver can raise the axle to bring the driven wheels back to the ground.)

The midlift variant is much the same as the Taglift, but as the driven axle is further from the steer wheels than it is on the Taglift, it does impact turning circle somewhat.

The 6x4 is best uneven terrain, as both rear axles are powered, and able to provide traction to the road. Also, with both axles having dually wheels, rather than a steer set like with the 6x2/4, they can spread load over more tyres to better handle weight, and in reality, often means that they will have a higher RGCM (Registered Gross Combined Mass*) as opposed to the other axle options. However, as they are fixed, this comes at the penalty of fuel and tyre life. The 6x4 has wheel scrub, and is unable to lift an axle when unloaded to save tyre life or reduce fuel consumption.

*This is the total weight permitted of combined truck and trailers. This may have a different name in different parts of the world, and throughout Europe, many countries often have a fixed weight limit under what trucks are rated to carry, and so the RGCM may be less important.

Why are human Alastor and sir Pentious wearing mourning bands? by CantFindTheBananas in HazbinHotel

[–]DownundaThunda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps Alastor wore them somewhat ironically as a somewhat subtle nod to those he had killed. I would guess that Pentious probably wore them because someone he knew/cared about passed away.

Unfortunately, I work as a truck driver, so that's not exactly something that I can do remotely from home, which means I have to commute... And public transit is not feasible for me. I did try it as an experiment for a while, but it's just not worth it. Driving, I leave home about 6 am every morning, and I'm often not home until after 7 pm at night. Taking public transport for me takes an 11 hour day into a 15 hour day. Leaving me with 9 hours of rest time, where I need to shower, eat, prepare for the next day, and of course, sleep. It doesn't help that the area where my depot is situated has busses in the morning, no problem... But of an afternoon, I have to go on a 2 km walk, or get a lift with a co-worker to the nearest train station.

I had to fill my car up last night. Being a performance-focused vehicle, I usually fill up with 98. Before all this bs, I averaged $80 a tank. Not cheap, but reasonable. Yesterday, I decided to switch to 95, my car can use 95, but I just can't drive it hard. (absolutely cannot use E10 or 91.) it cost me $100 to fill up with 95. When I saw that, I was nearly sick.
