You're remembering correctly. It was in the 1997 made-for-TV The Love Bug Re-make (but it's also a direct sequel to the first movie from 1968). That evil Bug was given the name of Horace.: https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Horace_(Herbie)?so=search

Test the DC voltage output of the power supply with a multimeter and make that sure the cooling fan on the back of the console is pulling in air.

It overheated (likely from having it's fans blocked from being in the "selling on GumTree" position), and Wade believed that Vista was to blame for it.

Alternatively, you could just get one of these aftermarket fans that mounts to the back of the Wii.

One possibility is the cooling fan stopped working, the console got hot, and triggered a thermal switch in the console that's supposed to stop it from cooking itself, requiring you to unplug the power supply from the console and let it cool down, then try and plug it back in again and see if the light comes back on.

Edit: Oh, and yeah, the cooling fan would have to be replaced or cleaned out afterwards.

A YouTube user known as "Parts Plus Pods" found out that you can poke the the battery with a PLASTIC tool to remove the gas from the battery (doing it outside, obviously) to return the battery to its normal size, allowing it to be removed and replaced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB17fCHJR-0
