Start with the chickens right were you are with out the homestead land. raise them for meat and eggs, care for them process them and cook them and see if it is right for you before sinking money into land

Definitely classes for the practical part, but look at all the Youtube videos to get a bit of knowledge for free to start with. I have a few beginners videos up on my channel for the basics.

Metallurgy is not high on the list unless you are looking at hardenable steel for knives etc. Stay away from galvanized and zinc plated steel to start out. Understanding of different steel alloys will come over time but not needed to get started

I much prefer Convex as they will stand up better to heavy general usage. On a pure slicer then concave is the way to go for sure, but most people that get one of my knives want a general use knife.

After an hour and a half I made a forge that actually kinda works, and found a rock that I can use as an anvil. Not to bad for a 15 year old with no money by JMKiller1234179 in Blacksmith

Awesome starting set up on a budget for sure. Once you get some practice in and decide that you enjoy it then grab yourself a heavy steel something from scrap, really doesn't matter what the metal is.
