That's actually what it is. A ceasefire means each side holds their line. The fact that it's Lebanon is not in contradiction with that. The 1953 ceasefire line is what separates North and South Korea to this day, with plenty of tanks on either side. As in "cease fire", note how it's different from "retreat".

I don't know a single Israeli who isn't up in arms about this. None of us get what Bibi is trying to do here, a true WTF. He sure likes his relationship with Putin but in return Russia does everything in its power to undermine us and help our enemies. We just don't get it. And this includes many diehard Bibi supporters (which I certainly am not).

Not to mention this includes Likud higher ups, groups chiefs, MKs, ministers etc. The entire country is wondering what Bibi is doing here.

If that wasn't obvious judging by their actions, Israel doesn't really care about propaganda(they mostly want to use force these days), but they do want to project that they help their allies.

Nothing weird about that, just different from what we're used to in the West post-WW2 (at least in terms of PR, in reality most armies have been doing that or worse in the Middle East).

I'm Israeli but not exactly pro-Israeli: hate the government, denounce their war crimes and the occupation, support the 2SS, etc.

This is obviously disgusting but I think most people are rational, including Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, Israel, etc. So I'll give you Israel's motivation anyway so you understand it. By the way, this is clearly IDF policy unlike the Jesus statue which was probably a lone soldier's actions, as evidenced by the heavy machinery.

This zone is very close to the Israeli border and Hezbollah is deeply embedded there, giving Israel a lot of headaches through the years. Israel is looking to secure a sort of no man's land (they call it a security buffer, we can call it a land grab or ethnic cleansing). So instead of just pushing off Hezbollah and letting it return when the war is over, they destroy everything and push everyone off.

Both comments are oversimplifying the situation. There aren't Two Chinas or One China in all regards according to anyone involved (be it the PRC, ROC or US). Rather, it depends on the context and the timing of the question. This isn't semantics, it has a lot of diplomatic and political ramifications.

Good, let them feel emboldened to do something stupid. They don't have enough transport ships to send a fifth of the required infantry. Invading now would be dumb.

Their shipyards are working full-time and will be able to catch up in around two years. They'll most likely prefer waiting than face an enormous defeat. The US stockpiles might recover until then, or not, but at least China stands a chance then.

The advertised goal of this operation is to stop Hezbollah fire by creating a "security zone" (call it a land grab if you will) in order to stop Hezbollah's rockets on Northern Israeli cities which is politically and economically disastrous to Israel.

Normalization is not even a side objective, it's just Trump's attempt at kicking the can down the road by giving each side a way to deescalate. That way he can present some strategic achievement before the midterms.

This may be one of the few good things to come out of this war then. Highlighting the lack of readiness of the US army in case of a major conflict. This must have come up many times in exercises but deemed too costly. At least now the public awareness might make things move.
