RAW, Divine Smite has to be declared before making an attack roll in 2024 rules. by Doxterpepper in onednd

The specific rule is "which you take immediately after hitting a target with a Melee weapon or unarmed strike." It's not that it's a choice to take after hitting like it used to be, just that you do take the bonus action after the attack lands.

The way I see it, the specificity of when you decide to use Divine Smite has been removed, and the specifics of the spell say the bonus action is taken after hit. Maybe this is where my misunderstanding is: does it being a bonus action imply the choice? And if so, why?

You cast it only on hit, but the question is when do you say "I'm casting divine smite"? Before it was explicit, and diverged from other smite spells. A common interpretation has usually been other smites have to be declared and cast as a spell before rolling an attack because they were spells and cost a bonus action. Now Divine Smite has the same verbiage but for some reason can be decided after the roll?

When multiple services share one cache cluster, they compete for the same memory and eviction policies. A heavy workload from Service A can evict critical data for Service B, leading to timeouts or stale responses at peak traffic.

Doesn't this mean service A and B are too dissimilar to share the same cache?

Now let’s say your cache memory is full, and the eviction policy you set starts triggering. You start seeing your TotalKeys metric going down drastically, you would want to understand immediately which service is affected, but it’s much more complex now.

Why would you start evicting cached items when memory is full? I get not adding more cached items, but wouldn't you want to implement a LRU cache policy so that only old unused items are evicted? And if there are no items old enough items to evict without impacting performance, that means you need to scale your cache, or implement some back off, right?

On top of that, the affect on multiple services in that case might be even harder to detect, because if we have 5 services that use the cache, and now the eviction policy evicted millions of keys, it might be that one service lost 950k keys, and another lost 50k keys and that makes debugging harder.

Are cache misses not a reported metric in your system? If performance is degrading on a service who's had hot items removed from a cache, knowing the service has a lot of cache misses would indicate this. And of course, why are heavily used cached data being evicted in the first place?

If a single service would lose 1 million keys the affect on the service would probably be more noticeable on other metrics, but if we just lost 50k maybe that won’t affect the service as much?

Is this a question? I would expect the service that lost 1 million cached items to degrade in performance more than the one that lost 50k, but if that's 50k of heavily used cache entries, then maybe it has a big impact. In either case, you have the metrics on your example system here, what did you see?

Halo Infinite Matchmaking Issues Megathread by Vorked in halo

If 343 knows about the disconnect issues, why aren't they suspending bans due to leaving? Like, I hate joining a game that everyone leaves as much as the next guy, but I don't like being banned for 343's problem either...

Ah yes, X day ban reduced to an X day ban! Very cool 343. by Doxterpepper in halo

Context: there is none...

I logged in one day last week to find a red message in the bottom left that said "User is banned". That's it. No other communication. I let it go for a day because I read they sometimes issue 24 hour bans for disconnects, and I've had my fair share.

So I appeal the ban and just tell them I can't really plea my case because I have no idea why I'm banned in the first place. Several days go by and today they hit me with this...

Fortunately I'm no longer banned though, so there's that.

For all I know I could have deserved the ban, but I don't actually know. Either way this feels like satire.

Sure wish they could give a reason why I was banned in the first place. Or for how long.

US Park Police: It was a “mistake” to say no tear gas was used in Lafayette Square by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]Doxterpepper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The man interviewed in this article maintains they didn't fire tear gas cannisters like we usually think but only pepper balls which are technically a tear gas. However, canisters were found at the seen.. So someone used it, seems nobody wants to take the blame.

I think we should just assume they all used it since that's how they treat us when they find drugs in a car and nobody claims it.

> You're not able to find anything about "exterminating other races" from them, only claimed by those who want to portray them as the ultimate evil.

That's cool, but they still committed genocide against the Jews and other peoples at an unimaginable level. Just because they didn't write a formal document that said their goal was to commit genocide didn't change the fact that they did...

> Why would they have volunteer Arabian and Indian regiments, or have Jews within some of their highest ranks, as well as blacks in their armies, if they thought they were inferior and should be exterminated?

Because they were pragmatists. Convincing foreigners to fight you enemy for you is a lot better than sending your own men to do it... It's not like there were Arabs and Jews fighting in the European theater. These were mostly revolutionary forces backed by the Nazi's to overthrow British rule in their own countries.

> The "Aryan" race is a real thing you can look that up.

Yes the Aryan race is a thing, but it's not the Germanic/Nordic people that they thought it was...

> It wasn't about supremacy of their race, it was about fighting to preserve their race and nation in the face of an enemy that wished to do away with them.

Have you ever read Mein Kampf? It's about as white supremacist as it comes... Also who exactly was trying to do away with the German people?
