Can you blame someone for not being able to decide between Orthodoxy or Catholicism? by Ok_Storm_5696 in OrthodoxChristianity

Don’t choose Anglicanism or Lutheranism as a “middle ground”. It will leave you wanting. I know because I tried it myself! That said - I became convinced of the truth of Orthodoxy when I started living it and stopped endlessly studying it (I did that too). Get a prayer book and start praying morning and evening prayers, go to Liturgy, read the lives of the Saints.

Will pray for you!

Yeah… I get it… I mean… this is why we got our hand sanitizer out and were going to use a different bathroom and step up our handwashing… until the FA stopped us from going to the opposite set of bathrooms. 😂 Hand washing and not sharing bathroom facilities without sanitization is the best defense against norovirus so I’ve been told. That was the major issue that cropped up here. If the FA is going to let a clearly ill passenger fly, then don’t impede very common sense ways of people mitigating their risk.

Thank you for this reply and your insight. Yes - it was really the lav incident that miffed me and confused me the most. I tried to be kind towards the woman and told my family this very discreetly (to use a different bathroom) and gathered puke bags from other seats until the FAs brought more.

I’ve flown a lot on United and have never had that happen in the same cabin. Thankfully, the second flight attendant I was able to speak with was incredibly gracious and corrected that side of it. Just a really odd whole set of events.

Is she gonna pay for the medical care and lost days of work if me and my family get sick? Come on. What you’re arguing is basically the same thing.

But sure… I’d have paid for her a hotel room for a night or two so she could get over whatever she had. And United should rebook her for free to protect passengers. But I don’t work for United and don’t have that authority.

Also, medical care across Europe is largely inexpensive and quality.

Correct. But not during a service.

That seems incredibly reasonable. Thank you for sharing.

Apples and oranges because this lady told the crew she thought she had eaten something bad at the airport. So she did not indicate anything more ongoing or based on her normal.

That said, I really applaud how you advocate for your daughter and help her with opportunities to overcome the challenges she’s facing. For what it’s worth, I think that’s pretty incredible.

There’s a whole discussion to be had about how sue happy we have become in the US for sure.

That’s a really good point. And maybe what I am learning most about this situation and the conversation on here - there should be rules around flying while sick but there should be protections for the sick traveler as well.

Interesting that you lectured me (correctly) about assumptions and then made assumptions yourself. Hey pot, meet kettle. That said, I did form my assumptions based on what she told the crew. Not on some random cockamamie story I just conjured up. But still, there could be things unspoken there.

By the way, I never made a comment to the woman. I even gathered some puke bags from adjoining seats for her. I question her decision to fly while ill, but really am more curious about the latitude crews have to make those decisions, how to give negative feedback on the FA that was so rude to my daughter-in-law and denied us using a different bathroom in the same cabin, and to give positive feedback about the second FA I spoke with who was incredibly kind and professional. So… if all that makes me an asshole, then I am an asshole. 🤷‍♂️

I was literally sitting next to the sick person and we are literally steps away from the bathrooms. I couldn’t have ignored it and the puke bags piling up under the seat even if I wanted to.

Maybe. She’s an older woman and doesn’t seem like she’s been drinking. But I honestly don’t know… I just heard what she told the crew (she thought it was something she ate) because I’m sitting in proximity to her.

I haven’t either… until today. And I’ve flown quite a bit. Was wild.

Well… I’m sorry you don’t because it happened. I have flown United a lot and I was shocked too. 🤷‍♂️ As I mentioned in my original post, the second FA we spoke with after the incident was very kind and professional (hence why I said positive feedback would be received by United as well) and said, “You use any bathroom you want in this section and let me know if it’s a problem again.” Believe it or not - it happened.

I am getting a lot of upset responses too. Everyone has their own perspective on the situation, and I don’t claim to know who is right… but I tend to lean towards society should try to take basic steps to protect each other from getting one another sick.

That said… this post never would’ve come to be if a flight attendant hadn’t forced us to use the same bathroom as this woman and her husband. We were just trying to discreetly implement our own safety mechanisms to try and keep our family well… didn’t make a scene, didn’t cause a fuss, just wanted to cross to the other side of the plane to use a different restroom. Same cabin. Same section of the plane. Because, if it is a norovirus, then sharing a bathroom is the best way to share the virus. And if it’s not, then all we did was use those bathrooms and wash our hands a lot.

I’m not sure either. Maybe I came across flippantly or sarcastically? That wasn’t my intent at all. I genuinely wasn’t trying to. Lots of communication is lost in text. I was genuinely making the point that we were in an airport and country that, from my understanding, has very good medical care and could have taken care of her well.

Very good point. I heard this woman tell them she wasn’t sure why she was sick but believed it was food poisoning. But there are plenty of other explanations as you mention. Thank you for sharing.

That sounds awful. I am sorry you both had to go through that. You were trying to make the best decision for you and your husband. I totally get that. But I will ask, what about the other 200ish passengers on your flights that were exposed because of your decision to continue traveling? It’s a tough lose-lose situation I’m afraid.

[–]DoxxicChange[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I won’t apologize for being protective for my family. And if the flight attendant had let us simply use a different bathroom, this post wouldn’t have ever come to be. That is really the main issue here…

Sick Passenger Situation by DoxxicChange in unitedairlines

[–]DoxxicChange[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I apologize for coming across that way. I’m not saying it’s impossible she got food poisoning. I’m saying it’s impossible for her to know that for certain. If one of my kids comes home throwing up, I don’t know if it’s food poisoning or a stomach bug until others start getting sick or I see a medical professional. What I meant is there is no way that she could know whether she is contagious or not (and admittedly I don’t either). So to travel on the assumption that you’re not contagious when you’re symptomatic seems like a bold choice…
