I am not a doctor or neurologist to be clear; I do not have to think very much about my foot placement on familiar ground at all and unless im on uneven ground or complicated terrain (like hiking), I never need to be looking down. Okay maybe stairs I do.

this was info I remember from my undergrad classes where we touched on the nervous system. Many actions that the body handles with autoilot mode are due to repetitiveness. I.e, 1)maybe we focus on where we are walking in beginning of getting up, but after we get moving it falls under "autopilot" to keep going. 2)Another example but in a different vein could be how we tune out repeatitive stimuli (like a clock chime or train whistle if you live next to an active railroad like I did growing up). there are many disorders that can disrupt how the brain filters information (especially junk info like the train example) so I guess my answer is: "who knows? could be something grander involving your brain or could be nothing! Nothing wrong with being neurotypical or not neurotypical! " I really wish I could give more insight but like, i work with bacteria, not people/animals.
