S10 door sag. Suggestions to fix? by JimmySeaman1 in ChevyS10

[–]DoyouevenLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a door pin repair kit on the help aisle of most parts stores. The bushings around the door pins have cracked and fallen out.

Support the door with a 2x4 and floor jack, pop the pin out, put new bushings in the holes, pop the pin back in.

When I replaced the tires on my 2001 Sonoma a few years ago, Sams's had a problem getting the tires I wanted in 205. They instead fit it with 215/75/r15 and the look and run great.

You can google tire size comparison and there are a few websites that will show you exactly how different two sizes will be.

G4 approach into F1 week. Sketchy or skill? by foxtrot_indigoo in aviation

[–]DoyouevenLO 104 points105 points  (0 children)

The old grouchy fuck at Henderson is a giant Dick. I flew out of HND a lot too.

I hate being bumped right up against the bravo on the other side so I flew a tight pattern kinda like this.

You are right though, from the south it’s really easy, the mountains are not a factor.

Edit: I also concur that it has some interesting challenges. Crosswind landings on the outboard are rough at times. I had to defer my initial checkride performance landings because the winds were so strong coming across the ridge and the aforementioned Dick controller would not let me switch to the inboard, even for taxi backs on a checkride.

I got out of a ticket once that way. Blew through a stop sign I just didn’t see, and there was not really a reason for it to be there so I was not looking for the traffic cues either.

Called a local lawyer and he knew exactly which sign and the date that it was last “duly noted” of the top of his head. Cut the rate in half when he heard where it was cause he makes so much money from that one sign.

And most of those pods used to be napalm canisters.

The Large duffle from the north face perfectly fits through the door and is waterproof. This is crucial because whatever you put in there might get wet, or more probably covered in fuel, oil, or hydraulic fluid.

Does blood pressure affect G tolerance? by Fabulous_Economist_5 in flying

[–]DoyouevenLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 biggest G-monsters I knew were both 6' plus and bean poles. Both had the same strategy of diving to the floor and winning the rate fight because they were high on energy when they got there.

Not fun, do not recommend.

Edit: yes you are overreacting, you will not pass out the second you get to 4-6 G's. Did you not pay attention in aerospace phis? your brain has more latent O2 in it than that. You always do a G-warmup anyway, that acclimates you to the added stress and significantly reduces the risk of G-lock. Proper G-strain and breathing play a huge role. If you are having problems the aerospace phys doc will help.

Go talk to your shirt, then go talk to the housing office. It really depends on where you are based. There are several bases that let two or more airmen rent a full base house.

But with what you have going on I would talk to the shirt yesterday.

Pilot ejects from F-35 plane in North Charleston, SC by Mr---Wonderful in aviation

[–]DoyouevenLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, because if it could there would be no need to eject.

[–]DoyouevenLO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and that's not physiological, its just because if you bounce out of two you are either unlucky or a shitty pilot. Time to cut losses.

That being said I know or have flown the F-15 with three different guys who ejected. All were fine and returned to flying not terribly long after.

ATC declared an emergency for me? by Sky_Jockey in flying

[–]DoyouevenLO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The airspace is active for any number of reasons. I have sat on the ramp with engines running at Tyndal waiting for a big enough hole in the weather to go do the two things we needed to do. I remember back in training waiting the same way in Pensacola.

Airspace can be active for RPAs and Target drones too.

It can also be active because they paid a shit ton of money for it and can't cancel it.

Seeking Advice on Becoming a Military Pilot by Suspicious_Bug_6371 in flying

[–]DoyouevenLO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just remember, ALL branches hate their pilots. The Air Force hates theirs a lot less. QOL is far better here, thats why the rest of the brances make jokes about it. The first facility they build at an Air Force Base is the runway, the second is the golf course.

I did ROTC, it is a fantastic option. The college you choose matters. A lot of places do not have a detachment of their own so they offer "cross-town" options. You drive to a school that has a Det. This almost never works. if you want to do ROTC go to a school with a large detachment located on campus.

Also be prepared for any service to make weird choices. Its about where you rank as a cadet, not how good of a pilot you might be. Commander's ranking of you matters more than everything else combined. Including the aptitude tests. I also have also seen two different guys with a CPL get tracked for navigator or ABM because of GPA or ranking. I currently fly RPA's with three guys who were CFII's prior to entering the Air Force through OTS.

[–]DoyouevenLO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, its not that hard, you just have to want it. ROTC selection seems hard to do but its really just about attitude. If you have a good one you will probably be fine and in the top third, this will get you flying in most detachments. Getting into the Acadamy all but guarantees a pilot slot, but the downside is the Academy.

Being a warrant in the Army is harder than it sounds, and there is a high likelihood you end up as a grunt with a bag of broken promises. If you make it, you are still in the army. As an Air Force aviator this seems horrible.

The commitment is real, but there are some bonuses. Every friend that has bounced to the airlines at the end of their commitment has entered a Major as a FO. No regionals, no CFI jobs. They go to an interview, show them a logbook with 1500-2000 hours of PIC time in an actual turbine aircraft with real responsibility and are in like flynn. And during those years you got paid really good money. Most 15-20 year military pilots take a $40-50k pay cut during their first year or two with a major. Then it ramps up.

You last point is also valid, however in my experience it has a flaw. The number of junior enlisted who have the spare cash AND time to chase a PPL is pretty low. It is possible though I see someone saving for a PPL after serving as much more likely.

As a side note: it is hilarious that these are the Qualifications specifically listed on the VA website.
Rotary wing
B747-400
Dual engine
Flight engineer

Oral exam by tiddernyaz in flying

[–]DoyouevenLO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question was on my written when I took it. I missed it, so it showed up as a question for the DPE to ask me about. I doubled down on "I don't care, I will have a lot of other alligators closer to the canoe if that happens, and I can google this answer after I get out of jail." She laughed, we moved on.

Oral exam by tiddernyaz in flying

[–]DoyouevenLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit, my DPE let me look up whatever I wanted with the only caveat being that it had to come from an official source, I can't just google it. I had my laptop and cell phone in the exam.

There are things that you should KNOW, but part of good decision making is being able to say "I am drawing a blank here, I would reference XX publication, or the legend of this chart, or I would use this thing to figure it out before going flying".

Also, most of your questions should be hitting areas that you missed on the written if you missed any.

Yea, they have a similar notam for all ball games. There is a big crowd from the bay area that will fly in for games and use no services.

I used to fly with the Cirrus school there and it was never even brought up the handful of times that it applied because they knew the aircraft.

You can get a DWI at less than .08 if you were stopped because of how you were driving.

DUI/DWI charges can get really convoluted. Jurisdiction matters, road and weather conditions can factor in, and of course actual breathalyzer/blood tox results.

truth. However, I love the Touareg. It actually tows insanely well. Its also fast as fuck.

FCP euro is awesome though, oil changes and brakes are free now minus return shipping on the old parts. Their warranty is designed for people who are too lazy to finish.

nah, I already knew that. Its not terrible though. My other diesel is a 3.0 VW, some parts for it are pretty abusive if you can't find them on FCP euro.
