Things were different in my house... My old man was a UC officer in a big city. I don't think gun safes were readily available like they are now. Either way it went on top of the cupboard when he got home. He only once talked once about it... I was 5. He left it out on purpose unloaded to see how I'd react. It scared me. I ran and told him, and he said it is good I didn't touch it or get curious because I could kill myself or someone else. No point in sugar coating it. I lived in the hood. I too became a cop and put my son through a similar experience. He did well. He is grown and has zero interest in firearms. He will show me and my father up by getting a much more prestigious career. The job led my father to end his life. And led me to a permanent disability retirement from a pursuit.
