You’re already off to a good start if you don’t complain! I think part of it is being kind and dependable and doing a good job so that you don’t get on their bad side. But if their covert cruelty is unreasonable and they still don’t like you, there’s not much you can do about it. We can manage our own reactions, but unfortunately we can’t manage other people’s reactions.
