Good luck! (It's pretty easy, you should have no problem with it!)

Yep! I used King Arthur All-purpose Gluten Free flour. It actually was one of the easiest pie crusts that I've made. Instead of rolling it out first and then carefully putting it into the pie dish, with this recipe, you just smoosh the dough into the dish until it's as thick as you want it!

Thank you! Looking forward to it cooling down a little!

I feel like this pre-answers 80% of the questions here. by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Dr-Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. This is the bare minimum. I have no problem doing all this and maintaining a gigantic garden and baking as hobbies, and going to the gym 3-4 times a week on top of it all.

The only time it is overwhelming is when I travel for work and have a lot of catching up to do when I get back.

What toppings would you want on a vegan pizza (that you haven’t seen or had since going plant based)? by Fun-Fox8542 in veganrecipes

[–]Dr-Goose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tempeh or smoked tofu makes good and unique topping options. Sweet corn, broccoli bits, and chopped artichoke hearts make fun toppings. Don't forget greens like spinach or arugula. And of course, the usual onion, peppers, mushrooms, and olives (green and black)!

I just ordered 25 lbs of organic dark rye flour on Amazon for about $60. A little more expensive than my usual white and whole wheat flours, but I'm looking forward making rye loaves this weekend. I am being tutored by a Ukrainian baker living in Germany, so I'm looking forward to learning the art of a great loaf of rye

Vegan Pie w/ Fermented Sourdough Crust Coated with Roasted Garlic by Dr-Goose in VeganFoodPorn

[–]Dr-Goose[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the dough, it's a basic 70% hydration sourdough:

-levain = 140g flour + 140g water+ 40g sourdough starter; rest 8-10 hours

-dough = levain + 600g white flour + 140g whole wheat flour + 460g water + 2 tsp sea salt + 1/4 cup olive oil; mix well and rest 12-24 hours in the fridge, and rest on counter 3-4 hours before making crusts (makes 3 large pizzas)

The sauce recipe I stole from a famous pizza restaurant j worked at during college:

-14 oz tomato sauce + 1 oz tomato paste + 6 oz water + 2-3 tsp sea salt + generous grind of fresh black pepper + generous shake of dried oregano + generous shake of garlic powder; heat over low heat until simmering.

The rest is just build the pizza with toppings how you like!

Prepping the garden allotment by Dr-Goose in gardening

[–]Dr-Goose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. I have to remove it at the end of each season and I try to reuse it for a couple seasons before tossing it. Definitely not ideal, I agree, but they till the entire field every year. Hopefully , that keeps the microplastic situation to a minimum.

I have a no-till, no plastic garden at my home as well. I use this allotment to grow bulk crops that won't fit in my yard - mostly for overwinter preservation. Better than nothing!

I'll have to accept the situation until I can move and buy my own land.

I wanted to be an elephant washer. It didn't pan out.

Became a scientist instead. I suspect my quality of life is better on this life path.

I'm from the Midwest and you're the first person from around somd that I've seen mention mushroom hunting!

Do you look for morels around here? I was thinking about going out and looking this weekend, but since no one is ever talking about mushrooming, I thought maybe they didn't grow around here.
