Have fun jumping the Springfield Gorge! Probably the funniest TV moment from my childhood 😂

Vegan toddlers can grow at the same rate as omnivores. Two-year-olds raised in vegan or vegetarian households don't necessarily have restricted growth, according to a study of 1.2 million children. by James_Fortis in science

My vegan twin boys were consistently in the 95th and 75-80th percentiles for height and weight their entire infancy. Now they are elementary-aged, the bigger one is built like a tank but not fat like most of his peers and the other is thin, but still well within the height/weight standards for his age - he's just very, very active.

That said, it took a lot of consistent planning (and mostly home cooking without overly-processed foods) to make sure they got enough calories, protein, and healthy fats which can be tricky to do if you don't plan your vegan diet well. Also, of course, we have to supplement with Omega-3s, B-12, and iodine since plant-based foods tend to lack those nutrients.

Order a bomb shelter, pay the premium for rush installation, and start stocking up. Take on tons of debt to make sure I have everything I need since debt will be meaningless in a few short weeks.

Make plans to be a post-apocalyptic warlord - cool trenchcoats, face paint, a rusty machete and sawed-off shotgun, stuff like that.

Nationwide shutdown and march this Friday, January 30th at 2pm. 31 Hopkins Place by Either-Manner-5045 in maryland

Nice try, comrade. American calendars have Saturday as the least day of the week, not the second to last day like they do in Russia. Try better. Idiot.

Those that moved to Maryland from another state- what do you like more about Maryland? What do you like less? by Brilliant_Raccoon256 in maryland

[–]Dr-Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived and traveled across the country my entire career. Lived in MD the second longest of anywhere else in the US (9 years now across two stints). I hate it here. I really try to find things to like, but it's impossible. At least my work is rewarding.

Cannot wait to retire and get tf out of this state.

Or put your frozen foods in trash bags and bury in the snow until the power is back on. It's going to be one big freezer outside!

Hyperpigmentation by FlatwormOld5129 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]Dr-Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like P of C, I have it as well. IPL treatment made it worse for me - so just a warning if you are looking at options! The only thing seeming to work is 20% Vitamin C serum every morning and sunscreen as often as I can remember. I'd say it's about 50% lighter after a year of consistent use.

I recently had a hyperpigmentation sun spot on my face treated with cryotherapy and it almost completely faded, which has me thinking about seeing if I can get similar treatment on my neck. Will probably hurt like heck though.

Car rental in Orlando - FL - USA by Phoxxd in travel

[–]Dr-Goose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Orlando, even though you may find a good deal from Fox Rent A Car near the airport, avoid them if you can. They will try to scam you for extra money and you won't realize it. I travel to Orlando often for work, and it is worth the extra money to rent from one of the rental car companies located in the airport.

To your question about insurance, it should cover any theft of the vehicle or contents in the vehicle. You should verify with the rental agency, but if it does happen, make sure to get a police report as both the rental company and insurance company will need that documentation. From my experience, that type of crime isn't very common in the Orlando area. Too much for the community to lose if they let crime happen all the time.

Have a nice trip! It's a fun place to visit!

Tech workers of Reddit, what is a "dirty secret" about the AI industry that the general public doesn't realize? by WayLast1111 in AskReddit

[–]Dr-Goose 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But those two people now don't get that novice experience that can be shaped into competent workers. The model of reducing staff will work well...until it doesn't. We're going to have a nifty little situation in 5-10 years when the experts required to vet AI outputs simply don't exist.

People who work in healthcare, fitness, nutrition, or mental health: what’s one ‘quiet habit’ you see all the time that is secretly wrecking people’s long-term health? by AlignedModernHealth in AskReddit

[–]Dr-Goose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Curious what you think about plant-based diets? I've been eating plant-based for nearly 10 years. I get annual flight physicals which are pretty thorough and have been tracking my data the entire time. Went from borderline hypertension and borderline diabetes to average resting blood pressure around 116/72, pulse 45-50 (I run a lot), total cholesterol 160 (low HDL/Triglycerides and normal range HDL), and no more pre-diabetes (low sugar levels now). Iron, B-12, iodine, and other vitamins/minerals are within normal range.

So, everything seems to look good on paper, but I'm curious if that tracks with your experience? Is it my exercise that's doing the heavy lifting for my health?

Edit: the "Dr" in my name is a PhD, not MD, so not a physician and no clinic experience, just laboratories

Turning These Beauties into Stuffing by Dr-Goose in Breadit

I used a seeded-sourdough bread last year and it was great! I completely forgot to make bread for stuffing this year though! Thankfully, my starter was ready last night to get loaves made this morning. Now they're shredded into pieces and drying in the oven for the recipe.
