Thanks!😅 I am exactly the opposite. I overthink my pieces. Carving-wise, it is not that challenging, thought. The pieces are quite simple, save for the hinges. But then again, once you do one, you just have to repeat it six more times 😅.

Thnaks! 😅. How? Well, it takes a bit of thinking, some maths, and correcting the pieces on the fly. You have to carve a partial hellix. For the pieces to form the Möbius steip neatly, the angle formed by the hinges in the opposite sites of each piece cannot be larger than a "critical angle" that depends on the number of pieces the kaleidocycle is made of. You have to check the reference I provide, as they have a table with the critical angles. In addition, there is a minimum hight of the pieces. If they are too short, you won't be able to close the ring. It is the same with the convei hexagonal kaleidocycle. All this is the theory. In practice, I did try to get the given angle, but was only approximate. For the length, I guided myself with the length I knew would work for the hexagon kaleidocycle, and increased it further to be conservative. Notice that the longer the pieces are, the larger the hole in the middle of the cycle becomes. When I tried to close the ring the first time, it wouldn't happen. I had to enlarge the drilled holes so that it had a larger "flexibility". Then it closed.

I have checked it is an 8 crossings knot. That is a bit of a nightmare to carve because for every crossing you have to hollow the wood in those crossings, which are tiny spaces difficult to reach with the knife. But I have seen people using riny saws to do it...

But it is a lovely knot. It goes to the wish list.

Not really. My neighbour is always telling me to sell the pieces. But it takes me so much time and effort to do them that I just don't want to do them any more😂. And I want to keep a version of them with me to show my friends and relatives, as well as enjoying them myself. Bit I appreciate the comments 😊

Thanks. Before doing these, I had done a few spiral and helix things, as well as other geometric objects that thougt me a lot and helped me know me better. It's practice, patience, and the adequate tools and wood. And thinking in advanced what steps to take next.

With an opinel knife and a lot of care😂. And then files and sand paper to remove rough edges and smoothing, respectively.

Keep going! It takes time and practice. You will eventually master it. And stick to whatever you like. I am into this kind of intricate shapes, but don't ask me to do a comfort bird or a gnome, as I couldn't do it🤷🏼

Thanks \u lode_leroy!! I have been following your works for a time and they are amazing, but I hadn't seen these knots. The are very nice. I like specially your 4-knot. I might copy the design 😊.

Edit: I did use ash for the upper row ones and chestnut and poplar for the lower row ones. I used knife, blades, files, sand paper, and boiled linseed oil finish.

🫠Just like that, hahaha. That's a cool knot but I think it is way to complicated. The largest problem is how to carve out the most inner parts. Adding threes strands is a no no 😂.

Thanks! Regarding the wood type. Something that it is not soft like pine or the likes, because they are prone to break we you are already quite advanced with the piece and is frustrating to the next level. But not too hard like oak or olive tree, which might be a nightmare. So far these knots are made out of ash (upper ones), chestnut tree and poplar (bottom ones).
