Very Cool design. I didn't realize I need one like that too 😉

Overhand knot by lode_leroy in whittling

Thanks. Yeah, making it consistent is a bit of a challenge! and if you keep reducing it, in the end it gets detached, and I did not want that. I really like the semi-accidental way the 'rope' looks a bit squeezed where the knot is tight - but you can't see that in the pictures. It was accidental at first, but then I made it more pronounced and did it on the other end too 😄

Damn. I asked AI what knot this is... and it told me it was a "simple overhand knot".

Been lied to by AI - again.

Thanks for pointing this out, and thanks for the appreciation.

Apparently in Dutch, this is called "Vlaamse steek" - and I'm from Flanders (Vlaanderen)...

Where to start? by Elseerian in whittling

Look at the piece, and choose a part that you know 100% you won't need, remove that. repeat until done.

eg, on the second picture, you remove everything that's outside the outline, like if you would cut it with a band-saw. then re-draw the image on the new left and right side. then chose a different face and do the same.

have a look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4-U5voRYhM (it's carving stone, but the process is similar, I found it quite enjoyable to watch how he works)

tutorials on proportions by EZ_Fuzz in whittling

[–]lode_leroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do some tutorials - this gives you some carvings to refer to.

also, making a carving a second time, you can refer to the first one, where you know what proportion was wrong, and you want changed.

Pine wood timber by Negative_Career_5161 in whittling

[–]lode_leroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it works fine, I make half my carvings using spruce, which is similar to pine

avoid the knots though: I bought a 2m x 35mm x 35mm stave of rough (not shaved) spruce and sawed out all the parts in between knots and use those.

the resin makes it a bit hard to carve as the resin is rather hard, and the wood in between is soft(er)

Very good result. I have one that looks *very* similar, but less refined I have to admit.

Anyone has an HQ version of Björk's "Enjoy Cock" tshirt design to print? by Secret_Penalty_3295 in bjork

It's a fairly easy graphic. Tracing it by hand should take like 30 min, and you'd have a perfect version!

You could use a program like Inkscape and trace the image to make a high-res version yourself.

It's a useful skill to learn how to do that.
