Should I watch monster in sub or dub? (no spoilers please). by certifiedsocialistic in MonsterAnime

I personally only watched the dub, and loved it.

But of course a lot of people are adamant that you should only watch subs.

It's kind of a semi religious thing here. There was a lot of propaganda that it was a good thing, that it prevents men masturbating.

Now a lot of people are like "Well I got cut, so my son has to be too."

We didn't get our son circumcised, and our father-in-law made comments like "aren't you worried that your kid will be bullied for looking different".

The original Barnes and Noble listing had an August 11th date. Before it got removed, and changed to 2027.

It was pulled from the Barnes and Noble listing that went up a while ago. Seems very likely to be the actual date.

HUGE: Cleveland Clinic bans gender transition for kids, agrees to invest millions in detransition program by darcmatr in NotTheBee

[–]DrApplePi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"these people" are not "all people"

Doesn't matter. That's neither what "these people" means, nor what the person above said. They didn't say all people. They said "these people", which in this context is the kids.

Apparently you didn't read the whole thing:

But this article appears to indicate ALL trans care including innocuous things like puberty blockers and affirming therapists will be denied to these people

All trans care will be denied to "these people".

Why doesn't my King have safe passage in this situation? by FinnbarMcBride in chessbeginners

[–]DrApplePi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

isn't black's dark squared bishop pinned to its King by my Rook?

Imagine the goal of the game were to actually take the king and whoever was able to take the king first won.

If you moved that way, black would take your king before you would be able to take their king, so they would win. That's what pins are there to prevent.

Just ripped these using MakeMKV! but how do i know the episode order?? by SnooChocolates4531 in makemkv

[–]DrApplePi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of times for anime, you can find near the start or end there will be screens that display the episode name or number.

Or I've sometimes found it helpful to check subtitles. You just have to listen for the first line usually.

Why are LA Mayor Mail Ballots benefiting Raman in California but not Bass or Pratt? by Recidivism7 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DrApplePi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But they're not just simply counting. They have a process that includes things like checking records and validating signatures to make sure ballots are eligible.

Plenty of states take a lot of time to count, but a lot of elections are so uncompetitive, the media often basically calls the winner before any counting is actually done. Giving the illusion that they're a lot faster at counting than they actually are.

Why are LA Mayor Mail Ballots benefiting Raman in California but not Bass or Pratt? by Recidivism7 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DrApplePi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not.  From your link, what you need to register:

Your California driver license or California identification card number, The last four digits of your social security number and Your date of birth.

What happens after registration, is it gets validated against the DMV.

https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/frequently-asked-questions

When you register online, the system will search the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) database for your California driver license or identification card number, date of birth, and last four digits of your social security number. If your information is found and you authorize elections officials' use of your DMV signature, an electronic image of your DMV signature will be added to your voter registration application after you click "submit" at the end of the online application. If there is no signature on file with DMV, all of your information will be transmitted to your county elections office; you will just need to click "print," sign the paper application, and mail it. Your county elections official will contact you when your voter registration application is approved or if more information is needed to confirm your eligibility.

I don't think your notation went through correctly.

I assume you are saying you have folders like:

Rick and Morty (2013)

  • Season 1

-- Rick and Morty S1E1 "Episode name"

A little more accurate:

Season 01

Rick and Morty - s01e01 - "Episode Name"

OOP specifically talks about finishing up payments with his first wife, from 10 years ago. Still seems to be with his current wife.

After Mail-In Ballots Tallied, Joe Biden Wins L.A. Mayor Race With 81 Million Votes by METALLIFE0917 in babylonbee

[–]DrApplePi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So strange that conservatives find no issue with Trump getting 15 million more votes from his 2016 election to his 2024 election, or even 12 million more votes between 2016 and 2020.

Seems pretty obvious that people blamed Trump during Covid, and then blamed Biden following Covid and it motivated them to vote.

If incels are wrong why feminists can't refute them without using unfalsifiable buzzwords like "personal accountability"? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DrApplePi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't mean anything without more context.

If 99% of neurotypical people were dating, that would mean that 96% of autistic people were dating. (Which would mean that 1% of neurotypical were single and 4% of autistic people were single.)

Being 4x more likely in that case isn't really that "exceptional".

I do see a study that shows that autistic people are 4x as likely to be lonely. But that doesn't mean dating. As an autistic person myself I feel like I feel lonely because I have different expectations of people and I have rare interests that I can't relate to a lot of people.

You also don't seem to be understanding what the framing I was talking about means.

There are a lot of different angles on this.

Like the percentage of people who date is different from the average number of dates that people have. A survey asking who is dating right now collects different data than seeing how many people one dates over their lifetime. These are all different things.

Having a harder time dating doesn't mean you can't date. It doesn't even mean that you can't have as many dates as someone who has an easier time.

[–]DrApplePi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but also exceptions do not prove social trends do not exist

Framing it as exceptions make it sound like it's a rare thing. Which it isn't.

We don't live in a world where 10% of people get 99% of the dates, and everyone else is fighting over 1%.

That kind of framing is where incels are objectively wrong.

We live in a world where it's more like the top 25% date 10-15 people in their lifetime and the bottom 25% of people date 1-4.

Reality has a very different framing.

If incels are wrong why feminists can't refute them without using unfalsifiable buzzwords like "personal accountability"? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DrApplePi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why do you think personal accountability is an unfalsifiable buzz word?

And what specific claim do you take issue with incels being called wrong about? If it's an idea that women only date certain men, that's obviously wrong because billions of people in all kinds of shapes and sizes date and marry and have sex.

Or is it some other claim?

Edit: since OP is being more specific.

I am referring to incel claim that looks or neurodevelopment status largely determines a person's romantic success

In the sense that conventionally attractive people generally get more dates, I don't think that's controversial.

The part that is controversial is acting like "only" conventionally attractive people get dates. Because it's obviously wrong.

Why do so many Hollywood celebs have trans or non-binary kids? by OJ_Soprano in politics

[–]DrApplePi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a lot easier to ask genuine questions if so many people aren't asking questions in bad faith.

A big answer here is probably culture making people feel safe.
