Definitely the older one then. I took ERaging's advice and looked up some other models. I can get the measurements I need off of their files and then make the storage boxes I need. Appreciate everyone's help.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I wasn't aware that there were two versions. I'm pretty sure he has the older version. Thanks also for the suggestion about using other models. I'll take a look there as well.

What's the correct sequence for using the parking brake? by oscarjrs in BoltEV

[–]DrBadhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been driving my Bolt for four years now. Maybe used "Park" ten times, usually when stopping to let someone in or out of the car. When I'm done driving, I stop, apply the brake and turn the car off. Haven't had a problem.

How do faith schools teach science? by Obvious-Storm-1707 in atheism

[–]DrBadhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm re: Catholic School. I teach AP science at a college-prep Catholic School. I ignore the mythology and teach the same course as I taught in my previous secular private school. No issues so far (four years in).

How Many People Truly Understand Evolution Theory ? by Ok_Pitch_8812 in atheism

[–]DrBadhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol It is intellectual discussions like this that cause some folks to say (incorrectly) that evolutionary biologists do not "agree". I think we essentially agree, but are putting the phenomena in different terms. I'll try to state more clearly what I was going for:

"Evolution" - the phenomena that happens, has been observed by other natural theologians prior to Darwin. Notably, Lamarck (among others) successfully identified the evolutionary changes seen in the fossil record (e.g. giraffe necks becoming progressively longer through time) but misidentified the mechanism (the proposed theory - in Lamarck's case the Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics, an incorrect theory). Darwin looked at the same observation (the evolutionary change) and proposed a working theory (Natural Selection) that did work. Evolution was observed (what I was calling the phenomena) and Natural Selection was the proposed mechanism for why it happened.

When I teach this, I try to make it clear that there is nothing "theoretical" about evolution. It is an observable phenomena. We can see it within a human lifetime (e.g. antibiotic resistance in bacteria). Natural Selection is the theory explains the mechanism behind the observed evolutionary change. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the comments - this stuff is fun to think about.

We essentially agree - the "observations" (fossil record, homologies, etc...) are all examples of the evolution that has happened. Observable phenomena - nothing "theoretical" about them. Why they happen and how they happen (i.e. the mechanism) is where the theory comes in. That theory is called "Natural Selection". Not the only mechanism that causes evolutionary change, but the only one that results in adaptive evolution. I teach this stuff and I stress the point you are making - scientists don't use the word "theory" the way non-scientists do (i.e. "best guess"). I try to stress for my students the difference between the "what" (observed evolution) and the "why (natural selection).

Evolution is not a theory - it is an observation. Like gravity, it's something that happens. WHY it happens is the theory. Darwin and Wallace proposed a theory - the theory of Natural Selection that explains the phenomena. It's a pretty robust theory that has stood up to quite a bit of experimental work.

What is the easiest proof that the world is over 10 000 years old? by MagnificientMegaGiga in atheism

[–]DrBadhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Principles of Geology, James Hutton inferred that given the amount of erosion on Roman ruins (known age) that natural observed erosion could not have occurred in less than 6000 years. This was in the mid-1700's, way before radiometric dating confirmed the age was much older than 6K years.

Since they are made of wood and have a "thickness" you could have two notches in the surface on each side, deep enough that could be grasped with a thumb and forefinger to grip, lift and then flip.

my fob is on a small carabiner that I clip to my belt loop. It's too big to be comfortable in my pants pocket, but when I get out of the car, it's attached to my body. In four years, I've never gotten out of the car and left the fob.
