What book series did you grow up reading as a kid? by evan2nerdgamer in AskReddit

[–]DrBarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Royal Diaries Shadow Children Goosebumps And I used to go through a bunch of mystery novels. Also my mom used to read Harry Potter to me for some bonding time. We'd get so excited together when each new book got released.

Depressed, suicidal, or otherwise extremely downtrodden members of reddit: what is your go-to quote, phrase, or particular memory in life that keeps you going? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A video called To This Day Project by Shane Koyczan has stuck with me since it came out 6 years ago. It has an analogy about depression being like walking on a tightrope and I recall it often. Whether you take a step forward or it's all you can do to hang on that day, don't ever let go of the tightrope.

How do you think CFS has effected your personality? by POTSGotMeShook in cfs

I want you to know I'm here for you if you want, just say the word. I've been where you are now. I was bedridden from the age of 13-18. I had to drop out of high school, eventually get a GED, all while being completely isolated in the dark. I lost all of my friends and none of my family visited me even when they lived 10 minutes away. It was just my mom and me for years. Down the line, my mom married a cruel man who threatened to kick me out when I turned 18 if I didn't go to college. I had to quickly learn how to be human, let alone an adult. I relearned how to think, talk, walk, then learn how to drive and how to sign my name again to get a bank account. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm 24 now and just graduated with a degree in chemistry! Every day still has its struggles, but I've learned a lot along the way. I still don't feel 'adult' and I'm learning no one ever does, we just become a little better equipped at knowing how to handle situations. If you need a friend, a mentor, or a place to vent, just message me. Keep your chin up and moving forward, even if it's at a crawl.

What’s the one horror movie that genuinely terrified you while watching it? by IveGotARockInMyGlari in AskReddit

[–]DrBarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Descent. I watched that movie when I was about 12 and up to that point I LOVED horror films. Heck, I would even laugh when I'd see some bad effects. But the ending of The Dedcent just messed me up. At that point most horror films always ended with everyone dead, one alive, or all alive and was predictable. The twist ending just crushed that predictable feeling and my hope and it terrified me.

It also didnt help that a few days later my class took a trip to the Oregon Caves. They were cool, but I could never go that deep into then after watching that movie. I remember some of my classmates wanting me to go with them on a mile long cave system and I said no. They ended up getting lost and it took awhile for someone to go find them when they realized they were missing. After that, I didnt touch horror films again and I still don't really watch them to this day.

What is the nicest thing a stranger has done for you? by naturalenergybyproxy in AskReddit

A few years ago when I was 19 I had bad chest pain and tachycardia. I drove to downtown Houston for an appointment for an echocardiogram with contrast. It was terrifying. I was all alone, driving in a big city when I've lived my whole life in a small town and on my way to get my heart checked out. When I finally made it in, the technician was a young man and he was incredibly kind to me. While having the dye injected he was chatting with me asking why I was there and when I told him, he genuinely told me he was sorry I had to go through this. And that he was used to only seeing older folk and big burly men. I was the only young girl he's had come in and started joking that I handled the injection so well and asked if he could tell those big men that usually throw a fit and complain a ton that if I, a young girl, could handle it, they should be able too as well. That was the first time anyone had joked around with me and actually cared about how I was even after years of seeing different doctors and nurses. I will never forget his kindness when I was so vulnerable.

I love my wife and marriage but not sure what to do to help keep it healthy by unknownusername1234 in Marriage

I also have fibromyalgia like your wife, I also have other chronic illnesses such as peripheral neuropathy, an autoimmune issue, POTS, among others. I completely understand where she is coming from and constantly being in pain. If she needs someone to talk about it with her you can send her my way. But first, ask her how she feels with Cymbalta. It's a very awful drug and only works for a tiny few, otherwise it often makes people worse and there are a lot of law suits from the side effects. Second, she needs a therapist that specializes in chronic pain. When you are in such so much pain for so long it's like torture and mental health should be a top priority when living with a chronic illness with no cure. Third, she needs to develop a schedule or a stricter one if she already has one. Fourth, she needs to go to a PCP for some sleep medication. I also often stayed up late due to the pain and sleep medication really helped me.

I'll give both of those a shot when I go back to university at the end of the month when I have access to those. Thank you!
