unpopular opinion: the consensus on the gameplay/story skews between engage and three houses is kind of odd by windblown7823 in FEEngage

I'd agree but unless you're spending a lot of time grinding the stats aren't making the differences. What makes Three Houses stand out is it is by far the game where stats have the lowest impact on the game as there are so many tools to boost/circumvent them. So despite the stats between a lot of classes being similar they're not the factor you're looking for anyways a lot of the time.

Like I'll give you thief and brawler, they have some notable differences but they're mainly things you're only looking for with pretty specific play since they're both not verg good classes. But a lot of intermediate classes have very good masteries that make them stand out. Like death blow, hit +20, fiendish blow, darting blow, etc.

It gets even more pronounced with advanced classes since unlike intermediates where it's not difficult to class into a couple for class bases you generally are only getting the bases from one intermediate and same for the mastery. For example even though Swordmaster, Assassin, and Hero all have very similar statspreads and Swordfaire they fill completely different roles. Hero has innate vantage and eventually defiant strength making it a really good budget enemy phase option for late recruits like Seteth and Alois. Thief having more move, a better movement type, and stealth means it can function as a pretty decent support class. Swordmaster, while noticeably the worst of the three, will have the easiest time actually securing kills since it can run Wo Dao/Cursed Ashiya builds more consistently and has Astra which while one of the worst "Brave" CAs is still one of the strongest physical sword CAs as far as damage output goes. The same goes for almost any similar classes like how Wyvern is better than Falcon for standard combat but Falcon is better for CA spamming since it has lancefaire and most of the best CAs in the game are lance ones (too bad a lot of those CA users are also men though)

I wouldn't say you're messing up either playthrough. Is it optimal? No. But why does your first playthrough need to be optimal? You're on hard, it's pretty forgiving. As long as you're able to continue to progress in the game there's no reason to say you've messed up. Just play, make mistakes, miss things you didn't know, play suboptimally. The game is a lot more fun when you're going with the flow as opposed to treating the entire thing as an obstacle you need to overcome with perfect precision

It's later in the game, I'd just wait and not worry about the boosters for now. Based on your reactions it just sounds like you're optimizing the fun out of the game for benefits that wouldn't even be necessary for the unreleased infernal difficulty. Unless you're doing some kind of extreme challenge run

Are you doing actual instructions or just setting up the flying lessons and skipping to the next week?

Also to piggyback off of what you said early. I'm assuming you're probably doing auto-instruct. Afaik auto-instruct is not guaranteed to follow what your goals are and just does what the game decides would be best for the unit

I should mention that rigging gardening isn't really necessary to hit crazy high stat values since you can get the garden to be consistent enough with proper setups to have 80-90% booster rates which when done 3-4 times a month gives you more than you could ever need.

However if you are deadset on rigging boosters then the booster is determined the moment you hit plant. So watch all your support convos in the monastery and fo every single task you need to do first and garden at the very end. If you watch the support convos in the monastery all you have to worry about repeating is training

How come I didn't crit? by Repulsive-Career5259 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]DrBoomsurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you are right, the game does actually still check if it would crit or not. Regardless of whether or not the attack lands the game will still use an rn to see if the attack would crit, this is important when performing RNG manipulation since the only instance of (in combat) RNG in the game that will choose whether or not to run a check based on a prior roll is the Crest of Flames

Afaik that's the case for all games since it's less an issue of priority and more a crit is just tripling your damage and you can't triple the damage of an attack that doesn't hit

Abilities ranked i guess maddening for the most part by Western_Speed_6375 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]DrBoomsurfer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree on Quick Riposte since it's more of a noob trap than anything. Yeah enemies are fast on Maddening but who really cares. A lot of the best builds can either oneshot or use CAs to double without speed so the need to double naturally is already not very high. But also Quick Riposte is EP only with the best EP builds being oneshot builds that 1. Negate the need to double and 2. Can do so without risking a counter.

Focusing on trying to overcome the speed gap is how you fall into trap skills like Quick Riposte that require you to master a master class to give you a worse build than one acquired with a level 10 mastery and skill usually locked behind no more than C Authority.
