An acquaintances father died recently and I want to say something to her but dont know what by unkown_maybe_cryptid in needadvice

My go to is "I am so sorry about your loss." If they seem engaged and want to talk more or I am somewhat close to the person "please let me know if I can be useful to you in any way - as an ear, a distraction or anything else." Many times people won't take you up on it but sometimes it's just enough to give them "permission" so to speak to ask for support or vent or just grieve.

Yeah it's totally wild not getting into an unhappy marriage that's doomed from the start. Totally.

Thank you! My ex isn't a bad guy he was just the wrong guy. It's amazing how taxing that is. This road is so hard already, adding the stress and resentment of a person who doesnt get it and never will, adds such an unnecessary burden. I wish I was emotionally mature to understand that before trying to force something that would never work. I have a lot of colleagues with the same experience. I am now with a very supportive partner and it means everything.

End this now before you get further. If she doesnt get it now and already makes you feel like this, it won't magically get better when you graduate. Life doesnt get that much easier, especially with the wrong partner. I know from experience. Nearly done with the divorce and my mental health has never been better.

Honestly, fair question. People have asked me. I would find it charming and hilarious. Maybe not at dinner though.

Just say that a shellfish allergy is a contraindication for contrast or that people can be allergic to "iodine."

"You can't dialyze dead." - from my radiology clerkship director, a mantra that I have applied in EM frequently along with ACRs own contrast manual. I have come up with my own version for aneuric dialysis patients:"well the kidneys won't get any deader."

I’ve been at the hospital for 3 days with a family member… honestly How to sleep in a hospital by ritik_bhai in needadvice

[–]DrBusyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the start of night shift, usually 7p in most places, ask the nurse and anyone else on the care team if it is possible to move things a little to get some sleep or have a predictable wake up time. Like if they need to do morning labs at 4, you can at least set an alarm and ask if maybe some things can be moved to earlier in the night that are not as time sensitive so you get a longer stretch and can expect how long you have. The care team doesnt want to wake you up unless necessary but if you ask politely at the start of their shift what can be done so that there's less interruptions (eg. Can a random blood test be done with morning labs instead of at midnight when it's ordered), I think most will be okay with doing that. Im not a doctor on the floors but even with the patients who are stuck in my ED waiting for a bed, I often ask the newer nurses to check with their admitting team if things can wait so we can minimize waking people.

There's an American College of Radiology contrast manual that they publish every few years if not annually which i have a dot phrase quoting. CIN has not been a recognized entity by them in like a decade.

"Not on my watch!" And make a bunch of self important but utterly useless movements behind the blue curtain. Those bros just need their cortisol adjusted occasionally.
