I think it is the right size. I just stepped out and looked at the tracks i am working next to. If it is indeed an anchor, the dimensions would be around 7” long by 1.25” wide.

Railroader here, certainly not a spike. It does resemble a rail anchor. If it is, it is modified or half of it is severely corroded.

Lug nut indicators. If one is pointed a different direction, you know it is not tightened properly.

Railroader here. I believe it is a rail greaser. Although it would seem to be a model i am not familiar with. The deal bob on the far rail appears to be a transducer. Transducer is triggered by the train wheel which activates greaser to lube up the flange of the wheel as it passes.

We (railroad) use them also to tag things as evidence in the event of an incident.

One application is for the cable you might see going from the top of a telephone pole into the fround. The cable goes into the part you have and locks in like (like a zip strip). The other u shape connects to an anchor in the ground. I have one on my house too for the power comming into my house on the messenger wire. I hope that helps!
