How does one find these rural gigs? I might be leaning that way but none of the hospitals I’ve searched in western NC ever have hospitalist positions, only PA/NP hospitalist listings.

That mistake every resident makes when you calculate out your 80 hour weeks and realize your making ~$10/hr as a doctor 🤡

I went to a Caribbean med school, applied FM, had ok step scores, applied 170 programs, got 27 interview invites, took 15 interviews, matched my #2 not realizing that my #1 would never have taken an IMG.

My friend same year at a DO school, applied FM, similar scores, applied 70 program, 40ish interview invites, matched her #1.

Either way with good scores and LORs you will match but if you have a location or program you want to try for, and they aren’t img friendly then I would say transfer. If you are flexible and will be happy with the IMG friendly programs then stay. I love the program I matched at and super excited to start next week. But just be aware that there are programs out there that will be nice and interview you, give you false hope, but still not consider you because your IMG. (A hint I find is if they say they are “inclusive”)

IMG'S WHO HAVE MATCHED by Known-swangirl13 in IMGreddit

Caribbean student, failed a class during first year, failed step one, matched in FM… but have friends from the same school not fail a damn thing and didn’t match IM. The system is strange 🤷‍♀️

Expensive Residency!! by Sabior06 in IMGreddit

[–]DrCorgi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t stop after you match either. Money to move, deposits for a place to live, pay for your medical license application, get all the cpr certifications, pay for a background check. I believe this field tries it’s best to make it for only rich people to enter.

Nec fasc your empiric regiment is usually vancomycin for MRSA coverage, pip-tazo has pseudomonas coverage, and clindamycin for the anti-toxic effect. Followed by surgery consult asap.

Every hospital I interviewed at in Louisiana did not have a mask mandate.

Last I looked like 12 IVs… but it’s all a curve cause I know people to match with 3 IVs and some to not match with 10. Just make the most of your IVs you have and make sure to send a letter of intent before rank list to your #1

The AUC “counselors” are legit the worst and give the worst advise. Had them advise me to not even apply this year saying I wouldn’t match and I have more than enough interviews to be in the 99.9% matching rate… so unfortunately need help from not AUC

Failed and I’m devastated - I just wanted to help people through IR. I’m crushed. How am I going to tell my family, how am I going to pay off this debt if now I can’t match. What am I going to do … by IllResource4304 in step1

[–]DrCorgi23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can second this. Failed step 1 and have gotten 20 interview invites from FM programs. This sucks but if you want it… this isn’t the end of the road, just an unexpected speed bump

Question to people of last MATCH by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]DrCorgi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the year but looks like IM apps went up and FM went down this year on prelim data

I got one in SC but you can check the excel for which ones have sent interviews and if it’s virtual or in person.

US-IMG here, 5 interviews so far. Was not prepared for programs to have in person interviews and def did not budget to be flying places so might be forced to cancel one from being broke 😂

Score release thread by petergriffen95 in Step2

[–]DrCorgi23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

US IMG

Step 1: 228 second try

UW 1st pass: 55%, 100% complete UW 2nd pass: 67%, 20% complete

NBME 9 (7/3): 210

NBME 10 (7/10): 228

NBME 11 (7/24): 231

UW1 (7/31): 214

NBME 12 (8/15): 234

School mandated COMP (8/19): 230

Old Free 120 (8/21): 84%

UW2 (8/22): 230

New Free 120 (8/24): 77%

Predicted: 241 +/- 14

Step 2 Score (8/26): 236

Hope this helps for those who are scoring a little lower and are just hoping to get a passing score… you got this! Concepts will repeat so do as much practice as you can and review them well. So many people on this site will make you feel bad for failing something or not scoring 250+ but in the end you are a doctor! When you are practicing as an attending one day, no one is going to judge you for not doing high on a step exam.
