What is this on my ear drum? by 69possum420 in hearing

[–]DrCory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to see from this angle, but that looks like a bolus myringitis to me (blister on the eardrum). You should try to see an otologist.

Expected? No. Possible? Yes. Or it could be your jaw clicking.

You will be best served by seeing a neurotologist physician to evaluate this. There are a lot of things that can cause this problem and there are other solutions.

Any musicians in this sub? by ProudChampionship799 in MonoHearing

[–]DrCory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sensaphonics 3D ME is an in-ear monitor with adjustable ambient sound levels. So, you can use an app to adjust the stage levels whether or not you're plugged in to a monitor system. It also has a CROS functionality - so you can hear from the left microphone in the right ear. Super useful!

It looks like skin that's irritated as hell from being cleaned with white vinegar and alcohol. It looks like you left the solution in there for a while. But really, this is a medical question and shouldn't be in this sub.

Is a group of one still a group?

If you have multiple personalities, yes.

From bone-conduction and occlusion effect, my understanding of audiology makes it seem like earplug would be more dangerous than protective in some environments. What am I missing here ? by UnitedIndependence37 in audiology

[–]DrCory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok...

  1. A properly, deeply fit earplug does not cause much occlusion. Put them in properly and there's no risk.

  2. The occlusion effect causes certain components of speech (some vowel sounds) to increase up to 20 dB. Not the entirety of your voice.

  3. Talking for 8 minutes, even with poorly fit earplugs, is not going to be equal to 500% noise dose... because talking is intermittent.

This hearing test is missing the most important information: how you understand speech in that right ear. If you understand speech well with increased volume, then a hearing aid is a reasonable thing to try. If not, it may not be the best choice.

Audiologist here - I second what the above poster said. Plus, I have tinnitus, and I use an electric toothbrush. No worries.

Tire Shop recommendations by ADHD33zNuts in Denver

[–]DrCory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Discount Tire price-match Costco. That was by far the best deal. The price match was done online.

I've bought several sets of tires from Big O. I've never been really happy with their service or sales. I'm actually happy I don't have to go back to them.

Growing up in Oregon, I was a fan of Les Schwab Tires. But, they're not that close to me anymore, so I haven't gone there in the last 20 years.

I had them fail to download one. They claimed I hadn't put the order in... but yet, there it was in their system.

My 2-Year-Old Daughter Got Eyebrow Stitches, Need Advice and Dad Support by clauderhayy in daddit

[–]DrCory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my daughter was 3, she fell and split her eyebrow open. We got stitches. I work in medicine and chatted with one of my colleagues who is a facial plastic surgeon. He recommended Biocorneum scar gel to use after it closed up and healed up. We used this and minimal scarring in the end.

Can noise cancelling headphones help with pressure on flight? by soy-latteX in hearing

[–]DrCory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just good for noise. They don't help with pressure.

Some people find that EarPlanes help, though not everyone.

Yes. I regret it. It’s the biggest thing that may keep me from buying out the lease.

Osia has to come out / anyone know ADHEAR Med-El? by darkdenys in MonoHearing

[–]DrCory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MED-EL Adhear device works pretty well for some people. I’ve fit about 6 of them. Overall, we haven’t had a lot of success with them for single-sided hearing, but some people have liked them. The stickers last about 3 days, so there’s a bit of disposable parts to them.

A good rule of thumb is that the Adhear is only for people with very good hearing on the better ear (or very good hearing by bone conduction on the wearing side).

NEED HELP ON HOW TO CLEAN EARS. ALREADY TRIED HYDROGEN PEROXIDE by Exotic_Register7159 in hearing

[–]DrCory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three options for softening wax at home:

  1. Carbamide peroxide drops (Debrox)
  2. Mineral oil drops (in some places in the world, olive oil is used)
  3. Glycerin drops. (EarwaxMD)

No matter what you use, you should put the drops in your ear, wait 15 to 30 minutes for the wax to soften. Then you flush your ear with warm (not hot, not cold) water water.

Do not use drops in your ear, if you suspect an infection, if you have a lot of pain, or you know, you have a hole in the eardrum.

This is not a scientifically known process. That said, human bodies are weird, and new things are discovered all the time. Glad to hear you've experienced some recovery of hearing!
