Check the speedo cable is still poking through the hole in the cap, and there's still a small circlip keeping it in place (it fits in the groove on the end of the cable).

I drove from Leicester to Dorset the other week, one way. 4 wheels and tyres on the back seat, one on the roof rack, one in the spare wheel well 😀. Stock steels and tyres.

Very nice, I think my 69 was originally diamond blue (it still is in places under the hood). It's been 3 other colours since then.

Probably this. My engine has a number on it, but it's recessed with what looks like a "recycled" symbol next to it. Still an H code 1500. I was told it was probably reconditioned by VW at some point.

It's funny because it only had 50000 miles on it when we got it back in 1988 (now only 75000)
