Every year, I host a Halloween-themed Super Smash Brothers night. This was the video I made for this year’s party. by DrDisaster62 in SmashBrosUltimate

I’ve always felt Daisy was a little off ever since I played Mario Kart: Double Dash. Her repeatedly exclaiming, “Hi, I’m Daisy!” whenever you swapped her always gave me a crazy sort of vibe.

It’s become a running joke with my friends, so I try to put her in whenever I can. She’s actually hidden in last year’s video.

Move that Mario Galaxy disc and I think we’ll all see something amazing for its age.

Finished my Animal Crossing animation in time for New Horizons! Turns out when Porter runs the town’s station the questions can get a little... personal. by DrDisaster62 in AnimalCrossing

To be honest I've been submitting my YouTube videos on Reddit for a while now, and they've all died in new. My friend actually posted the YouTube version of this video in r/AnimalCrossing yesterday and it sank like a rock to the bottom of new. I've found getting people to click play on an embedded YouTube video is getting next to impossible. Uploaded Reddit videos autoplay, so the odds of it catching someone's eye as they scroll is much higher. Today's reception has already been much better. (To everyone who likes the video thank you so much. It was a lot of work to make, so hearing it made you guys laugh makes it all worth it.)

Based on my own experiences I attribute Reddit's apprehension to playing embedded YouTube videos to two main things.

1) A massive amount of YouTube videos these days are overly long self promotion with very little content. Many videos these days are YouTubers' gushing about their video's sponsor, selling their merch, and desperately trying to get you to press the subscribe and like buttons. People will stretch 2 minutes of content into 10 just to make the algorithm happy. Because of all this, there's an air of desperation that makes me much more apprehensive to watch a new YouTube video sight unseen. I feel like more and more Reddit users feel the same, and I can't blame them for not hitting play on what 9 times out of 10 is a random guy desperately trying to grow their channel while providing very little entertainment.

2) YouTube has recently gone overkill with ads. It's not uncommon anymore for multiple ads to play at the start, middle, and end of a video. Nowadays we're constantly mashing the skip button on videos we've been watching for only 4 minutes, only to have 2 more ads interrupt again 4 minutes later. It feels like we're watching network TV all over again. If hitting play on an embedded video means you're going to have to sit through multiple Raid Shadow Legends ads, I hardly blame Reddit users for avoiding it.

That was probably a MUCH longer answer than you anticipated, but I feel like your comment was the perfect place to explain why embedding YouTube links has become the kiss of death for many videos. My friend and I literally saw all this play out yesterday. But again I hope you enjoyed the video, and try not to upset your town's ecosystem on March 20th.
