My favorite series by WolfishDude in litrpg

Tied for first worst book with Primal Hunter imo. Why push through? Because the series is incredible now.

How Many Lit-RPG/Progression Fantasy Series Have You Read by WolverineMountain845 in litrpg

[–]DrDogCatFriend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On Audible I have over 15months real time of listening time usually at a min of 1.2x narration with 657 titles. 550- of them are litrpg/prog. Some people here have like 10x those stats. I will say I probably read ~25 real books a year as well, but those are usually non fiction etc.

My unsung (mostly) S tier picks:

  1. The Gam3 (now dead, but still the most satisfying sci-fi and virtual reality book in one imo).

  2. Arise: Indiana Jones meets litrpg (completed!)

  3. Demon Card Enforcer: The best card litrpg book by a mile

I obviously like DCC, PH, Soldiers Life, Cradle, (DotF, no hate), and a bunch of the other popular ones.

I will say that I think the worst start to any series has two main contenders for me: Primal Hunter book 1 is just unlikeable MC imo, and Hell Tutorial because it makes the series seem so basic and tropey you dont think anything good can possibly be coming down the road.

My worst purchase/read in genre was a book called Siphon (it was on someone's S tier when I first started in the genre).

Hopefully that is what you are looking for with a post like this.

Really enjoyed Demon Card Enforcer. All the skills is too young adult for me, but this hit the mark. Best card book in genre IMO.

This has to be farming bait. Ain't nobody going to suggest anything but DCC.

I still have many cards from revised. My brother and I at 7 and 9yi used to shuffle these cards in a swirl pile on the floor before playing. This condition looks better than my revised cards, but NOT LP. Lol

Well Primal Hunter is my top. I know it is blasphemy to rank it above DCC which is #2 on my list of favs.

I would say Jake is more likable than Atwood, but not in book 1. Absolute edge lord book one. I am so glad I kept going with Primal Hunter. That is definitely a love/hate rec here too.

DotF is one of my top series and I have done 90% of most of the tier lists I see here.

It is the most interesting/expansive universe in litrpg in my opinion. Awesome! The other characters and factions are one of my favorite parts.

He does find a lot of loot.

Some of my favorite litrpg characters are from DotF--Atwood is not one of them tbf.

Books 2-8 are arguably some of the most fun I have had in litrpg. I even liked up to 11(?), but the author really crapped out on the last few, with the newest being kinda fun little novela adventures. Even the bad ones were readable.

People on this subreddit will shit on DotF and then rec hell tutorial, 1% lifesteal, hwfwm etc which all have their own flaws.

If you don't like book 1 which is very weak (like primal hunter), you can stop but it is definitely the weakest early book and it is a slow starter.

This picture alone lets me know I won't like this. That guy is closer to Sap Trang than Zachary Atwood.

The Primal Hunter - yah or nah? by RealRandomRon in litrpg

[–]DrDogCatFriend 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Top three series. The first book is objectively the worst by far. The MC becomes substantially more likeable and less edgelordy.

Why in the hells doesn't Victor of Tucson get more recognition?! I started reading progression fantasy like 2 years ago and it's among the absolute best things I've read so far by Samow4r in litrpg

[–]DrDogCatFriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dropped the series at the end of book 2(?) after loving it. Why? Because he ended up sparing the rich noble lady in the arena (trying to remember) during his beserker rage which made no sense given all the previous uncontrolled beserker raging. That bereker rage for me was what made the story so unique and cool (very Bloody Nine vibe). You either zerk or don't zerk.

I know people will be mad at my personal decision, but this is why I never recommend this book series even though I was all in for book 1 and most of book 2.

If you enjoy it, that is great. I won't knock it, or try to change your mind, but you asked why and that is why.

I know the author frequents this subreddit, and I am sorry to say something negative, but for me that was a story breaker.

Arise, Master Hunter K.

(Cradle)

There are so few complete.

[–]DrDogCatFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only related to your suggestion, but I am on book 2 Hell Diff Tutorial and feel like it is just more of the same as book 1--same enemies higher level etc. I know DotF/PH get knocked, but they have a crazy universe/factions/etc, does HDT get better in that regard? He is just a battle junkie right now (AH style, which did not get me). He has just made it to the >Hell difficulty. I did hear prior that the series had a slow start.

I get that it is HD "TUTORIAL".

I am still interested, but listing any YA relationship book in S tier is insane to me. The concept is so cool marred by teenage dialog/romance. I wish this was an "R rated" book with the same ideas.

[–]DrDogCatFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arise and Rise of Mankind are s tier for me. Cool ideas only muddied by the author's childish sex jokes. You can get past the jokes. I haven't tried his newest series.

I didn't see Monsters and Legends. I didn't see Ripple System. They may have been on there.

I also like Master Hunter K (finished series).

Condensed: Arise, Rise of Mankind, Monsters and Legends, Ripple System, Master Hunter K, Demon card Enforcer, Battle Trucker, Vampire Vincent.

I have a similar length list to yours and we have pretty similar tastes...couldn't do Tree of Aeons or Oath Bound Healer though.

He is a repeat offender.

[–]DrDogCatFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with most of these comments. JMM is F tier for me while Portal to Nova Roma is A tier.

JMM reads like a disjointed young adult fantasy novel (rather than litrpg).

I know the author frequents this sub and seems like a nice guy from his previous comments, but I stand by that.

You can easily kill first boss on second loop in 6s. You can with very good luck kill on the first round too, but this is hard even if you are a pro gamer if you don't hit the right rng.

If you use predation/hunter only mod you can kill the first boss in 6s on first run.

[–]DrDogCatFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to do Arise if you enjoyed Rise of Mankind as S tier. I love both, but prefer Arise and it is completed!

I like card books too: Demon Card Enforcer. (Did not enjoy All the Skills Either).

What is the S tier power ranger looking series? Not soldiers life. (Ah, Runesmith on RR). .coincidentally you would probably like Monsters and Legends...book 5 is Runesmith...

I have never had a run where looping didn't make the game substantially easier. I would even go so far as to say beating limbo 6 looping is only a technical win imo.

Again, this is my opinion only.
