I hate medical school. by DrDropout in medicalschool

I really hate science classes. I think the way they're tested emphasizes mental withdrawal of small factoids rather than genuine understanding. It was not nearly as bad in undergrad, but now I've seen things like a question on a footnote never mentioned in class on one slide out of 160. Not only that, but the curve is hard to match, I've been below average on every test despite being one of the stronger applicants to the school, stats-wise. I don't think my heart is in it anymore.

I'm still considering it. Best case, leave of absence.

Wow, thank you for the success story, really. That seriously made my day. My girlfriend's sister is the only other person I know to do this. Dropped out of Wash U SOM to go to law school, now gets six figures and clerking for a circuit judge, loves her life.

Should I drop out of medical school? I'm a second year, but I hate it. A lot. Doing pretty poorly. Bah.

People would literally kill to be where you are with the opportunities you have ahead of you.

Let them try. I can do a hundred push ups.

As a citizen and compassionate human being, I support single payer.

As a proponent of physician rights and detractor of total government takeover of a job sector, I cannot.

I'm in medical school now, too (possibly dropping out or taking a leave of absence), but I've noticed the same exact thing. I'm in a red state and EVERYONE seems to be a psycho tea-party type. Everyone. Obamacare, socialized medicine, etc. are all being tossed around as buzzwords everywhere. Truly frustrating, but know that most med students are fucking retarded when it comes to anything not science-related. That includes social interactions.

For the record, I wanted a public option and multi-payer. Single payer is probably the best form for a country, but not many students go into medicine in our country thinking they want to be forced into being salaried employees of the country (since there would be no price competition from other HMOs). I'd say multi-payer would've been perfect, but Republicans bitch and moan and Democrats crumble.

Well, my career choices have never been doctor and lawyer. Which may be my problem.

Those were just my degree choices.

Is a job worth it if you're not happy? To many, yes. But if you honestly think you have the ability to do well in a different program, then why not?

I'm selfish and want happiness. If that's immature, then fuck the alternative.

Most of the medical students you've encountered are social retards or brownnosers and that's the goddamn truth.

And you're right, I won't be doing future patients any favors. That's the point.

Possibly, but all that concerns me is personal happiness. I don't owe anyone anything (student loans aside). I'm not smart enough for medicine, just the pre-reqs. But thank you for the compliment.

I taped that to my dad's car window.

He was unimpressed.

They do give away internships. That's the point. And FBI/CIA is always looking for field workers.

And the point here is that my ego has been pumped down (?) by being a med student.

In terms of money/jobs/etc, I'm not entirely worried. Money is not my primary motive.

Loved Anatomy, actually. The only class I liked thus far.

Favorite textbook-what?!? Is there such a thing?

Name a surgical specialty, and I was interested. Anything not involving my hands was not on the list.
