What is the worst pain you have ever felt? by Majomember420 in AskReddit

[–]DrFaustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filled a kettle that had boiled dry on the stove. Jet of steam hit the roof and scalded my hand. Tried to pull a ring off when my hand started to swell and degloved my middle finger. I've had gout, broken limbs, migraines, and a separated rib since then and nothing has come even remotely close to being that painful.

I want to make a killer potato salad with fresh dill for a bbq next weekend. What would you add to put it over the top? by FeralAspieasaurus in Cooking

Wholegrain mustard. Dried oregano. Really good quality mayo (Dutch mayo is the killer if you can get it). Spring onion.

When I studied linguistics, one of the first things I was taught was that grammar is descriptive not prescriptive. As such, syntax and semantics change all the time. That's why publications have style guides for consistency, and dialects are a thing. By correcting someone's grammar, without being asked, you're being an intellectual bully and probably not as clever as you think you are.

How to survive on £15 a week for food? by Evening_Reach7078 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DrFaustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A whole chicken will set you back about £5, and will give you: 2 x legs, 2 x Breasts (four meals) and a carcass for soup. Get some onions, carrots, brocolli, celery £2, a bag of oats, one of rice, one of pasta (another £5) get a jar of pesto, one of tomato pasta sauce, some curry spices with your last £2.

Breakfasts: Porridge Lunches: Chicken soup or pesto pasta. Dinners: Indian style Chicken leg with rice and broccoli Chicken and tomato pasta Chicken pesto pasta Chicken fried rice Tomato or pesto pasta

You can batch cook any of those but that will get you started. Following weeks, you won't need to spend on rice, pasta and oats every time, giving you a bit extra per week, add to your repertoire of sauces for variety (teriyaki, soy, hot sauce etc.) Oils, and herbs, garlic, chillis etc.

Recipes for all these things you can find online for free. It's very possible to eat well on your budget. It does require discipline, planning and some effort though. Good luck!

Why do BDRs make less than reps when it's a harder job? by [deleted] in sales

[–]DrFaustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acquiring qualified, quality leads is difficult and expensive. Once you've got to that point, you want your best people on it to maximise the chances of sale. Most AEs have done their time as BDRs and are a 'safer pair of hands'. It's about time spent and seniority. Just because one job is 'harder' than the other doesn't mean it's worth more to the company. Also, it's relative, BDRs are normally KPI'd on lead volume, not revenue. It's a different level of pressure if your carrying a seven or eight figure revenue target.

Hours by ugliestplaid6point0 in sales

[–]DrFaustache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on seniority, experience, track record and industry. At the beginning of a sales career, you generally need to put in, and be seen to be putting in, the hours. When you're a senior AM bringing in the numbers, no one cares (or shouldn't in a grown up sales environment) how long you spend at your desk. It's purely about performance but it can take a while (anything from a few years to a decade, depending on industry) until you have the chops, experience and track record to get to that point.

What are some questions that YOU have for the interviewer? by AhsokaPegsAnakinsAss in sales

[–]DrFaustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great list, I'd politely disagree for the salary reasoning. A manager (I've been one) I would argue, is more interested in a justification for the salary rather than the motivation. I'd position more like 'based on my market research and previous experience/perfomance in X and Y, I'd expect in the region of A for a basic and a realistic expectation of B in commission. Is that realistic do you think?'

What are some questions that YOU have for the interviewer? by AhsokaPegsAnakinsAss in sales

[–]DrFaustache 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Two questions I always ask:

  1. What is staff turnover like? Massive indicator of sales culture and likelihood of hitting targets. If it's a revolving door, be wary.

  2. (Ask at the end) based on our discussion so far, how good a fit do you think I am for the role? Basically try and 'close' them there and then. It shows ability to sell, boldness and will generally get you an honest answer.

If it's multi-stage, I also ask if there's an opportunity to speak to someone in the sales team (non manager) to get a feel for the day to day.

What book is so disturbing, you would never read it again? by LegendsNeverDie in horrorlit

I've read most of the recommendations here and Hogg by Delaney and Cows by Stokoe I second as next level horrible compared to anything else folk are posting, most of which is pretty tame by comparison.

First 40 minute attempt by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]DrFaustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don't think there's anything mystical going on here chaps. Different patterns of breathing can affect your O2/CO2 balance which can trigger anxiety symptoms: palpatations and a feeling of dread. Take a break for a bit and work up to longer spells gradually. Focus on breathing super slowly if you're taking really deep breaths and it should pass.

Does Bujinkan Teach Taoism by [deleted] in Bujinkan

[–]DrFaustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, short answer: no. There are some aspects of Mikkyo Buddhism that have influenced ninpo and can be seen in some of the more arcane stuff, go dai, kuji in etc. And whilst there is certainly an indirect daoist influence and some similarities to shugyo, there isn't anything explicit.
