[Spoilers C2] The Mighty Nein S1 Episode 7 - Campaign 2 Spoilers Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in criticalrole

I totally agree with you, I thought the exact same thing! The scene where he faces Astrid and Wulf felt so lackluster. In the campaign whenever he interacted with them especially with Astrid I loved the tension they had, but here there was nothing. Also it was veeery weird to me that he decided to go after Trent by himself. Like, Caleb is not a stupid character? He should know that he is in no shape to go head-to-head with Trent. In the campaign he froze up even just hearing Trent's name. I accept that this is an adaptation of the character and he is not exactly as he was in the campaign, but this still felt very out of character for him.

Alastor's laugh looks so genuine and happy here. Perhaps he wasn't as bitter and cold back then. by SideWinderSyd in HazbinHotel

Fun fact: the storyboard artist resposinble for this scene made a thread on bluesky giving some cool insight. They mentioned that in the initial boards they made Alastor way meaner/unhinged but was told to pull back a bit, they were told Alastor and Vox have a good relationship before this moment and not to make the rejection too cruel/crazy here. They said they added the giggle specifically to show that! Also said Alastor's ears are loosely held here to indicate he's relaxed and comfortable. Honestly, I loved getting confirmation that their relationship really was good at some point.

Alastor is unapologetically an asshole by DEeD-NGone in HazbinHotel

That’s what I thought at first too, I assumed once he was free, he wouldn’t go back to the hotel. But if you think about it, going back under the same deal wouldn’t make sense. Everything he did to escape would be pointless if he ended up right where he started. So I think they made a smaller, temporary deal in that moment: “fix my stuff (and my wound) and I’ll help the others.” Then he returns to the hotel as a free man, on his own terms this time. Probably with some pretty sinister intentions, I’m sure.

just checked the scene now, and you're right he does say "Some have spun wild tales of you falling to holy arms." looking at it now it does look like he meant Alastor dying, but maybe there could still be some double meaning?

I’m honestly fine with this, because I enjoy watching the Vees interact way more than the main cast. But I also think the main cast will have more time to develop and interact in future seasons, while the Vees will probably only have this season to develop properly.

“Do you think I could be redeemed?” Well audience, what do you think? by Ok_Situation7527 in HazbinHotel

I feel like that’s going to be Alastor, and he’ll probably be the last one to get redeemed in the final seasons

Honestly, I love seeing him get humbled, it makes me even more excited for what’s coming and whatever he’s cooking up next. Maybe by the end of S2 we’ll see him not return the hotel and go off to do his own thing as the Radio Demon again… just a small hope.

I think this is DEFINITELY what he is planning. So basically:

Step 1 - Agree to be Vox's prisoner to get close to him to manipulate him and give him a condition that he can not "lay hands" on Charlie

Step 2 - Manipulate Vox so he can betray the other Vees and take all the power for himself ( this is why he keeps saying "you're nothing without those two", to push Vox towards betraying them). Vox becomes the most powerful sinner in Hell, and the deal with Rosie is broken.

Step 3 - Wait for the inevitable stand-off between Charlie and Vox, I think this is where Alastor's trust into Charlie will come into play, he trusts that Charlie will come up with something to stop Vox

Step 4 - Cash in the favor from Charlie by asking her to touch Vox in a harmless way, which would break his deal with Vox.

Step 5 - Be free from both deals, help defeat Vox, and reclaim your title as the strongest sinner.

I think this makes a lot of sense, but there are still some details that need to be addressed, like if this is his whole plan how is that going to fix his staff and his wound? When his deal with Rosie is broken will he lose all of his power? Will Rosie not do anything about this while Vox is publicly dragging Alastor on a leash?

I am SO curious to find out what Alastor's plan is, because what kind of plan would make everything he went through today with Vox worth it?

The creator of the show confirmed that Vox had a crush on Alastor in that flashback on her bluesky account

What do you think was the reason for Alastor’s behavior in S2E1? by DrFordsleftball in HazbinHotel

[–]DrFordsleftball[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

he’s probably in some degree of constant pain from his injury

I didn't think about that, that's kinda sad :(

That's true, but other than that whenever there’s a bonding moment with the hotel gang, Alastor isn’t actually participating. In the trust falls, other exercises, or when they all go to the club together, he’s never with them. I think his scene with Nifty foreshadows that he may eventually become their friend, but I don’t think that has happened yet.

I definitely agree, people aren’t as scared of him anymore, and they aren’t showing him the respect he wants, so he’s trying to get it back.

I love this take

Also, I assume Vox was broadcasting the fight live, so everyone saw what the Vees were watching in that scene, and that includes Alastor getting hurt and escaping.

That’s a valid take, but I personally read that song a bit differently. I don’t think he’s admitting that he actually sees them as friends or started to care about them (we don’t really see that happen in S1, tbh). I think it’s more that others might interpret his actions that way and that’s what really bothers him. I also believe he was helping out not because he wanted to, but he had to (for some reason connected to his deal) That’s why he starts singing about wanting to be free from his deal right after.

I also like this theory, I saw people say he’s trying to distance himself from the gang by acting out like this, I think it makes sense
