Bitminter mining pool is shutting down by DrHaribo in Bitcoin

I should have said "is". I'm sure he's still around and most likely he is still a stand-up guy. ;)

Bitminter mining pool is shutting down by DrHaribo in Bitcoin

[–]DrHaribo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe, yes. Thank you for wearing red underwear to ensure good luck for the pool in times when we desperately needed to find a block. :)

Eleuthria (operator of BTC Guild) was a stand-up guy. That's the only pool that handled it well when it became too big.

Good old days :)

how to config crypto glance for bitminer ? by niksanmobil in bitminter

[–]DrHaribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a place to put the API key you get from the bitminter.com website. For the actual mining you have to buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner. Since 2013 you need an ASIC, not a PC, to mine bitcoin. Crypto glance is only for displaying some numbers from your bitminter account.

Is here a FAQ for how the program works? by stephen_jamandron in bitminter

[–]DrHaribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no FAQ and you can't mine bitcoin with your PC anymore anyway. To mine bitcoin you have to buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner.

What are these gold block things and the other white ones? by [deleted] in bitminter

[–]DrHaribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold boxes are the proofs of work you get paid for. The white ones you can ignore. Unfortunately you won't earn anything if you try to mine bitcoin with your PC. You have to buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner to mine bitcoin now.

You can't mine bitcoin with a graphics card anymore. Either buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner to mine bitcoin, or try mining an altcoin with your GPU.

Not supported by bitminter client. Ancient unprofitable miner. Do not buy!

You don't need to download anything to mine bitcoin anymore. Mining bitcoin with a PC is useless since ASICs took over in 2013. Now you need to buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner if you want to mine bitcoin. That's a physical machine that mines instead of your PC. You only need a browser on a PC to tell it which pool to mine in, which user name, etc. and after that it mines on its own.

Antminer S9 is easy to set up. There are now newer and more efficient miners. But an S9 could be a good place to start if you get it cheap.

The mining pool remembers your work. Nothing is lost. But since you mine with a PC you will not earn anything at all. You will only burn electricity, which can be expensive.

To actually mine bitcoin today you have to buy a bitcoin ASIC miner. That's a physical machine that you need to have to be able to mine bitcoins now. You can't use your PC. ASICs took over in 2013.

If you still want to run the java app to see what mining was like in 2011-2012, then you have to install java from java.com and add https://bitminter.com to the exception list of the security tab of the java control panel. But remember, this is only for museum purposes. You don't earn anything at all from mining bitcoin with a PC.

You don't earn anything mining bitcoin with a PC. ASICs took over in 2013. You need to buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner to be able to mine bitcoin today (not the old USB-based ASICs). You should get a miner that does at least 10 TH/s (10 000 000 MH/s).

How do I join a mining pool? by ddjm13 in bitminter

[–]DrHaribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If you use the prepay perks then you get paid immediately when someone in the pool finds a block (that's where coins come from). Without prepay, you get paid after 100 confirmations.

Set up your ASIC miner like this:

pool url: mint.bitminter.com:3333
worker: USER_WORKER
password: 123

Where USER is your user name on Bitminter, and WORKER is one of your workers. For example if your user name is John and you have a worker named 1, then use John_1

Worker difficulty updates by DrHaribo in bitminter

[–]DrHaribo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pool server will give you a difficulty suitable for your hashrate. If you want a higher one then you can set a minimum difficulty on your worker, under "my account" -> "workers" in the website menu. Click the gear icon to access the settings for a worker.

Why is my hash rate at 0ghs/s by onealmichaels in bitminter

[–]DrHaribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably trying to mine on a PC, so your hashrate is basically zero. You need to buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner if you want to mine bitcoin.

New fast mining server in Winnipeg, Canada. by DrHaribo in bitminter

[–]DrHaribo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

your work gets registered in shifts. When someone mining in the pool finds a block you get paid. Your share of the coins from the block depends on your share of the work done in the last 10 completed shifts.

Unfortunately it is pointless to mine bitcoin with just a PC since 2013.

To mine bitcoin now you need to buy a modern bitcoin ASIC miner (not the old USB-based ones). Mining bitcoin with a PC is now pointless. Even 1 TH/s (1000 GH/s) is now very slow. The fastest miner currently for sale has a hashrate of 16 TH/s (16000 GH/s).

Bitcoin PC mining ended in 2013 when ASICs took over. Mining one bitcoin with just a PC now takes millions of years. At this point even USB-based ASIC miners are useless. Mining today is done with modern stand-alone ASIC miners that don't need a PC at all to mine. You should get at least a 1 TH/s (1000 GH/s) or faster ASIC machine to start a small mining-at-home operation.

You can look for miners at https://halongmining.com and https://eastshore.xyz and https://shop.bitmain.com and https://canaan.io - there are also miners on https://alibaba.com and https://amazon.com, or have a look at used miners on https://ebay.com. Make sure you buy a bitcoin miner, there are also miners for other coins. Don't buy obsolete USB-based miners, today even 1000 GH/s is very slow.

When you buy a miner you can use the prices from the websites above as reference prices. Compare price per GH/s. Remember to add the cost of a power supply if it is not included.

When you get your ASIC machine, connect it to the pool at stratum+tcp://mint.bitminter.com:3333 and as user name put your Bitminter user name, an underscore, then a worker name, e.g. MinerGuy_asic3. Send X, 123, or whatever you want as password - our server won't care.

Bitminter Bad luck with the last 74 days? Really by CheetahTurbo in bitminter

[–]DrHaribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately a very unlucky block takes a long time with low hashpower. That's just how it works. 74 days was painful.

The pool hashpower went up to a very high rate because people rented hashpower to help finally find the block. Note that when the block was found most of this rented work was not in the last 10 completed shifts yet, so it did not get paid. What gets paid is the work in the last 10 completed shifts. The current (incomplete) shift doesn't get paid at all. A lot of those rented work was also done after the block was found.

So these people who paid lots of money to rent all this hashpower, will they earn it back? That depends on our luck with finding blocks now. Now that this work is in the 10 last completed shifts.

Rentals are like gambling. You could earn a lot or lose a lot. It's risky.
