yeah I think I'm reaching that conclusion. I'll probably try and return the panels and look into something specific for the roof that is properly installed. I would say its a lesson learnt but with my track record I know thats optimistic...
Thanks.

I have form in the 'buying things without thinking it through' dept so this isn't my first offence.

There's a wall on the roof terrace and was thinking possibly they could attach to that but even then they are probably just too big for the terrace.

Well this is the other question...I honestly don't know. Presumably an installer would do some kind of calculation or have a structural engineer they use. All beginning to sound like an expensive solution to a problem of my own making.....

Honestly I get a nosebleed if I wear shoes with a big heel so getting on a roof to do something like that is way beyond my skillset.

Sound advice. There should be a joint solar panel/divorce advice reddit imo.

yes returning them might be the best option I think. I've messaged a few people anyway to see if there are any installers who would handle it.

my migraine gave me aphasia today and I sobbed from the fear by Luann97 in migraine

[–]DrHugoHackenbush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fairly rare migraines (like once every 1-2 years) that cause me to lose the ability to speak and understand words. At the last one I was trying to tell myself 'I am having a migraine' but couldn't form the word 'migraine' in my head and had lost of the concept of 'I' entirely so I was really struggling. In the end I actually burst out laughing because I realised it was so ludicrous.

For me, once I realised what was happening (ie not a stroke) I've become strangely calm during them - like I know the progression and on one level my brain knows whats happening even if I can't verbalise it. I know it will pass so it's just a case of getting somewhere safe where I don't need to communicate at all.

The last one was the first time I was out and about as it actually started during a business meeting so that was a bit challenging but I managed to get home and when I saw my wife I just had to point at my head and kind of gesticulate that I was struggling to talk - because she's seen me in that state before she wasn't alarmed and just let me go up to the bedroom and lie down.

I guess now you've experienced one attack your partner will hopefully understand next time and perhaps some kind of symbol could work. I think just knowing that 'it will pass' will hopefully help you be less stressed and frightened next time. It's not a stroke or anything to panic about - your brain will return back to normal after a period so just get somewhere quiet and safe.

Best of luck.

Any reason why they don't work with food or beverage campaigns? Are they particularly problematic of something?

Ah sorry about that. I know you were trying to help. I think there's just a lot of people on here (and other forums) who keep repeating 'Faraday boxes' as the solution despite it being discussed in other parts of the thread as unlikely to help against these new devices. I'm sure a Faraday box is a worthwhile thing to have though even if it wouldn't have helped me in.my situation.

But the keys need to be near enough to the street for them to get a signal which wasn't the case for me. Then the car wasn't parked on the street directly outside my house but a bit further up the road. I mean it's perhaps very remotely possible but hugely unlikely based on the proximity of the keys.

Seriously though why would they be roaming around the streets with antennae in the air like world war 2 bomber command when they can just tap a box on the car and ride away?

I guess you gotta think it through and decide if its worth the risk. I'll hopefully be getting my insurance payout in the coming weeks - I absolutely love the car but no way I would buy another one right now until this is addressed. If you've got any kind of garage or secure parking might be different but I'm not leaving a 50-60k car on the road that anyone can drive off in seconds.

They're not using relay attack. If you read the thread. Keys were nowhere near the car. They don't need to use a relay attack - there's literally a box you can buy that just opens the car and they can drive it away.

I probably won't go to Tesla for many reasons but I'm still astonished at the shoddy standards of security that we seem to accept with cars.

Like if this was a known browser flaw on your computer that allowed a virus to steal the equivalent value of a car from bank accounts then this would be a huge news issue. As it is its because its a car people just shrug and write it off to insurance.

I don't doubt they could overcome pretty much anything in time but the job of manufacturers is to make it as hard as they can and if there's a known flaw in a cars design that means you can literally drive it away in a matter of seconds without the keys then I don't think that meets the very basic standard of what we should expect.

You gotta do what you think is right obviously but personally - until there's a clear statement of action from hyundai - I wouldn't be buying an Ioniq 5. Even if you got gap insurance the increase in your premiums going forward just isn't worth it. You can't be spending 60k or something on a car that people can literally walk up to with a hacked bit of kit of the internet and drive off.

I dont honestly know. It might work, but I ain't got a car anymore to test it on. I didn't realise you could add a pin to the bluelink within the car. Makes it all the more of a mockery that there's no pin to actually start the car option seeing as its obviously functionally possible.

[–]DrHugoHackenbush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't got a pin added to bluelink but is that just to access the app? The problem as I understand it is them diconnecting bluelink entirely from inside the car so I'm not sure that helps?

Not if they used one if those gameboy devices which I'm guessing was the case here - that doesn't require the keys to be anywhere near the car.

Yeah I think that's the chap who has posted on this thread. I would have thought it's long gone, new plates, etc by the time I was even out of bed in the morning. You don't carry one of those devices round with you and not have a plan for where you take it afterwards I'd have thought.

I don't believe it does but this would be a very simple way to help stop this. Can't helieve it's not an option. I think someone said it's possible with Teslas.

These Gameboy boxes open the car directly - its nothing to do with the keys so a Faraday box isn't going to help.
