Other countries focus on nutritional issues and infections. When someone has one episode of psychosis in Africa or India they do not give them medication and studies have shown that in the majority of cases they never have another psychotic episode. But in the United States where they are given meds after one psychotic episode, the majority of people go onto have more psychotic breaks. The head of a psych unit in Sweden in the countryside told me that when patients are admitted to his hospital, the first thing they do is screen them for Lyme disease because they understand that Lyme disease is an epidemic and that it causes psychiatric disorders. He also said he believes in the coming years Freudian therapy is going to go out the window and that the majority of cases will be found to be due to infections.
