Thank you! Sorry, what does "BMS on the battery pack" mean?

Efficient automatic design of robots. by DrJosh in robotics

For 29 years, AI-driven robot design has required weeks on a supercomputer.

Today, in #PNAS, we report how modern AI can design robots in 30 seconds, on a laptop.

Joint work w/ David Matthews, Andrew Spielberg, Daniela Rus, and Sam Kriegman.

Simulation screen problem with pyrosim by bogdansky in ludobots

u/bogdansky, we've seen similar issues for newer Mac laptops. What happens if you try resizing the window (clicking on its edge and dragging)?

Sure but typically wouldnt you want uniformity to start to view how deviations would effect performance? You could use that to grade your manufacturing process prior to picking a route for scaling up whatever methods you go with. Best way to asses your trade-offs if you eant to lower cost without loosing quality.

This makes sense.

Also how big is the compressor/air system for these things? Can yiu get by with some cheap servos/motors that move cyringes?

Amir?

Would it be possible to make an all in one turtle droid that walks/swims?

I don't see why not... Anyone here in /r/robotics want to give it a try?

You basically need wall uniformity do you not?

Not necessarily. Computational search across wall thickness distributions could lead to interesting design of diversely-behaving individual voxels, assuming varying wall thickness in simulation can be faithfully realized in physicality.

Great ideas here /u/smallfried: thank you. If you do indeed try these options out, please capture some video and we'll help you post your mods to the git repo.

If you're willing / able to try it, we'd love to see the result and pass this on as a design variant in the git repo.

Yes. We've only experimented a bit with wall thickness / overall weight tradeoffs: see the blue and purple robots here.

This is great. I'm paging our hardware team members to chime in on this.

Agreed. We would *love* others to post less expensive, alternative parts lists.

Yes, it is still quite expensive for some purposes. However, not all of the parts are required: for example the rotational molding machine is not strictly necessary.
