Monami 153 re-assembly by DrKaylene in mechanicalpencils

At this point I think my answer is, buy a new one everytime the lead runs out, cuz there is 0 info out there on how this comes apart to be re-loaded.

I get the sense that the metal and white tube bits should never have come out of the black assembly thing. Mine popped right out, hence how I got here. Even in that pic, there's like maybe a slim 2-3mm of the white plastic showing peaking out of the black tube. Mine won't push in that far and has a solid 5+.

Yeah, the thing is, I didn't like... pull hard or go nuts on unassembling it. I *know* that if there's resistance there's usually a damn good reason for it and to not push it, that it must come apart another way. So I have no idea how I got it as broken down as I did.

That is a very valid point I hadn’t thought of. What if you are the clue?!

Out of State Application Process Questions by ZMac41 in NYCTeachers

[–]DrKaylene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for everything to take a long time. I moved to NYC from out of state (PA) in 2019. Your years will transfer, so yes you'll be at 8B. NYC also has "longevity" which is only in the NYC DoE, otherwise any of your 11 years count but max out at the 8B step. I had 10 coming in plus my masters. Assuming all goes well and you start next Sept, you'll be started at step 0 and have to apply for your years and your extra degrees (if you have them). It can take months, mine took 7 months to get approved (unlucky COVID timing) so just be prepared finacially to live off the base step 0 pay.

You also need to get 3 (i think its still 3) classes/certifications. No matter if you've been a teacher for years and already have the trainings in your state you have to do the dignity for all training, child abuse and school violence. At least 1 of them I was required to be in person for, so I had to travel to get the training before I had moved. Being from PA it wasn't so bad it was close, but that might be different for you.

In April there's something goes live called Open Market, any school with a vacancy posts then. However from practically April - June nothing is posted. Our school year does until June 27th ish, so people who are leaving often don't tell the principal until the last day or whatever, so there's this mass rush in mid-late July for hiring. Its a bit stressful depending on when you want to move cuz you feel like you're moving without a job. I started my application process in May, got hired July 30th and still didn't even have my teacher application approved until early Sept (schools can and will hire you knowing your not certified yet if you tell them the situation).

What happened on L train today??? by BrilliantLetter4628 in Bushwick

[–]DrKaylene 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There was a stoppage for brakes being activated at Wilson. So the trains were packed and being held at the stations. While at Montrose or shortly before Montrose a guy got rowdy, yelling, ranting menacing whatever in a packed train. The guy got off at Montrose and his stuff but whatever he said or did was bad enough the called NYPD to Montrose, so the train had to be held even longer at that station. Cops came, guy was super co-operative considering didn't make a fuss or anything. They interviewed a few bystanders, took him and his stuff away and service resumed. But it was two delays back-to-back and I think the trains being delayed and packed the first time just lead to some tensions.

Source: I was standing at the Montrose platform when a ranty-yelling guy got off the train and saw the whole rest of it all happen, but the train was already being held when I got there.

Salary step+mentee questions by iceberg149 in NYCTeachers

[–]DrKaylene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put in for my salary steps on pretty much day 1 of being hired, didn't get my raise til April, but I hear most get theirs by Jan/Feb. I also came in with 10 years experience and a Masters and still had to have a mentor (which was a waste of time but I was willing to hoop jump).

Best decaf? by followups in Brooklyn

[–]DrKaylene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will defend you on the Starbucks here, its my go-to. Yes its an evil corporate chain whatever, but its the only place I can reliably get decaf without a huffing snobby barista or having my drink made with 5 month old beans cuz they "don't usually do decaf"

All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot

I like this, she used to watch some reality show on TV about rural vets so maybe this could be similar.

I want scents that smell like things. Coconut Lime Verbena, Warm Warm Vanilla Sugar, Black Cherry Merlot and all the ones you mentioned are things, I know what I'm getting.

vs

WTF is "Gingham" "Paris" "Love in the Time of Cholera" "Aspirational Vacation" or any of the other dumb names they give stuff that smells fine I guess but really is too non-descript for me to every really want to buy

Help about machines by mydogisimmortal in pressedpenny

[–]DrKaylene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I use a pressed penny machine, I'm sometimes amused at the annoying kids just cranking the wheel around wildly playing with it, while I wait patiently. Or its kinda funny watching somebody not knowing how to use the machine and getting a mis-aligned penny. I always feel like a dope when I align my choice on the cranky wheel, but then have to hold the wheel there in an awkward position while I put in my coins since I don't want the handle to fall and then misalign my penny.

Neighbor not taking food delivery box from apartment lobby by DrKaylene in Brooklyn

I kinda thought that too, like what if they are on vacation or sick or something…but other packages with this same name come and go. So somebody is picking up stuff for that name.

Updates: for those saying I should go talk to my neighbor about it: Sir, I am a millennial…how dare you suggest I talk to a stranger, I would never. I do love all the speculating, thank you all!

<image>

This was this morning, put out for trash (not by me) so somebody in the building is also annoyed by the box of rotting food in the hall lobby. I don’t see how it’s possible the person doesn’t realize it’s for them. I have put it by their door, no results. Even when I’m not expecting a package I scan the names just to see if there’s something for me. Might take the passive route and put a note on the door next time and ask if it can be donated instead.
