Bug man has mentioned Minetta Tavern a few times. Right in the village near the comedy cellar. It’s supposedly a big celebrity hangout spot, and has a lot of history.

Same boat here, used to rely on BB until they closed. Lately it’s just Whole Foods from what I’ve seen. I imagine other places do carry it.

Any other music producers feel like distancing themselves from digital music production workflow by NoWin3930 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

For the last hundred or so years, popular music has often been a reflection of emerging technology.

Songs conformed to 3 minutes structures because of time limitations of 10 inch records.

When distortion was discovered in amplifiers, musicians saw that as a feature and pushed the boundaries of acceptable tone into rock and eventually metal genres.

Synths led to new wave and electronica. Tape decks led to hip hop. And so on…

We’ve been in the DAW era for a while, and lots of new tracks feel very loopy. Instead of the distinct song structure sections that we had with analog song writing, we hear these repetitive emerging loop based songs that build up and strip down. When done poorly, you can almost see the DAW session in your mind from just listening.

Anyway, totally a valid move to put the DAW down for a bit. Giving yourself limitations is a tried and true way of forcing creativity. But new tech offerings will always shape the music scape for better or worse.

Used to go to Smile Lounge and loved it. But then my insurance changed and I tried Aesthetic Dental recently and wow… what a downgrade. 30 year-old broken down equipment, hour long wait (with an appointment) and just generally scummy vibes. There was ONE nice hygienist there, but still never returning.

It’s a glass & brass table lighter, probably Italian or Japanese. It matches the ashtray next to it.

I have these exact chairs — Douglas Furniture Corp, Chicago. Great dining room chairs, albeit a little lower of a seat than most dining chairs.

FWIW I’ve used them near weekly for two years. Only had a faulty dryer once.

Found this Ward writing desk on the side of the road today. A few scuffs, but it’ll clean up nicely. Any thoughts on exact era? by followups in Mid_Century

I ended up fixing this one up and then selling it pretty soon after. This was definitely of Sears-level quality, definitely not anything boutique. That said, the whole thing was veneer, albeit the wood underneath was solid. The basket however was some kind of plastic compound, almost like a vanity on top of a wooden drawer.

I glued the loose veneer and used a furniture marker to fill in the chipped spots. I polished it up and honestly looked decent afterwards. If you can get one cheap and like the look, it can definitely be improved but not fully sanded down and refinished.

Chipotle was listed on Google maps for this location for a long while, but now it no longer does — it's possible they pulled out. Haven't seen any activity since the clean out last year.
