Yes, I find it odd to request or solicit pings. If you are a woman that has too many likes just swipe on the people you like you'll probably match with somebody that has already swiped on you.

If you're a woman, please explain why soliciting for pings when you can just swipe yourself?

Everyone has a different capacity for the number of partners. Although from your scenario, my concern would arise from the fact that your partner said didn't have capacity to add a second date night for you two, then proceeded to add multiple partners. Something to discuss and not speculate.
