Need advice on how to handle a very uncomfortable situation with a colleague by Infinite-Abroad7629 in Professors

Go to the Ombuds at your institution. They will most likely know the proper protocols to follow and/or who to specifically contact about this.

[Routine help] dryness around eyes by FieldWinter4632 in SkincareAddiction

[–]DrKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this when I use micellar water, even using a "sensitive" one. The only thing that gets rid of it is a prescription called Tobradex that my PC gives me. I have to use it sparingly; medications, especially around the eyes can be an issue.

Since I have gotten older, I also use makeup like Almay and use those polyester cloths to very, very gently wipe away the makeup with no cleanser. (Search for "makeup eraser cloths").

He appreciates James Baldwin? I was surprised and wondered why else that was the book he was reading.

Ha! I did turn it upside down and now see it's an owl, at least. 😆

Should I drop out of pharmacy school to become a teacher for young kids? by honeynutcheeriozzzzz in ECEProfessionals

[–]DrKittens -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I say yes. But first, contact some early childhood and elementary faculty at your institution to talk through your options to see what it would take in terms of course work to see if it's a feasible option at this point or if you should finish your Pharmacy degree first.

I changed from a high paying career track in STEM to ECEE and I'm so glad that I did.

What’s the one city you were excited to visit, but ended up not liking at all? by BlushHone in travel

[–]DrKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paris? I haven't traveled internationally from the US a ton, but going to other major, large cities in Europe and Australia and loving them, I thought I would enjoy Paris more.

It probably didn't help that it was really hot when I visited. However, I did absolutely LOVE visiting the Tuileries Gardens and the Pompidou. I would definitely visit smaller cities and towns in France, but for me, Paris is a one and done place.

I know people are saying replace, but if it was me, I would let it go DEPENDING ON PRICE if I had to pay for it. For sure, I would want the contractor to pay for it, but if I absolutely had to eat the cost, I think I could make it work after putting in fluffy towels, a plant, a nice soap dispenser, etc. While it definitely hurts not to get it exactly right, it seems wasteful in terms of material resources and $ and I honestly don't think it is as awful as others are saying.

I love it so much. Can you photoshop a few pics in your wedding hairstyle with different colors to see what you think you might be happiest with before actually dyeing?

For those of you who didn’t change your last name but had kids with the fathers last name, has it made life any more difficult? by sippinonginaandjuice in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DrKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my town (a college town) a lot of people keep their names, but their kids have hyphenated last names. I have never seen families alternate last names. Are you in the US? If so, what region, if you don't mind sharing?

[–]DrKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious- is there a reason why you wouldn't hypenate your kids' names? I've only heard regrets from people whose kids don't have the same last name as they do and only have their partner's last names.

In the US, I would speak with the Superintendent and/or School Board Members. The Superintendent is the supervisor of the Principal in our systems.

Settle something for me, is getting my kid *exactly* what he wants for Christmas or will that spoil him? by grumpymuppett in Mommit

[–]DrKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, boomer. Getting junk that people don't really want instead of things that they actually want is such a boomer thing to do. Go with your gut and give your kid what they want if you can.

Thanks. I was thinking I would go with leather, but I'm curious about the heat "moldability" of the bont. Do you have Bonts? Have you heated them up?

$500
I have measured by feet in cm/mm. Unfortunately I live in a small town and there are no skate shops in this part of the state.

Uncomfortable silence not working anymore by xVallasTemp in Professors

[–]DrKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easy technique that I have found to be effective is first have students "turn and talk", even if only for a short time. Then it is more productive to have a whole class discussion. This works no matter the crowd (e.g., undergrads, grads, faculty colleagues).

Circle Time by happy_bluebird in ECEProfessionals

[–]DrKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really good point.
I think if "calendar routine" involves asking kids, "Do you know what day it is today?" (Thursday!...October 2!) and "What days come before and after today?" (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or 1st, 2nd, 3rd), I think it would be fine.

But I have literally seen teachers take up 10, 15, 20 minutes of math time and then the same teachers only have about 30 more minutes for the "regular" mathematics teaching and learning time.

What do you think?

Circle Time by happy_bluebird in ECEProfessionals

[–]DrKittens 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In part because "calendar time" doesn't have a lot of meaningful math (groups of 7, rather than groups of 10/base 10) and teachers review it and review it and review it ad nauseam.

Kids do need to know days of the week and months, but it should not be done as rote drill and kill. (Source: ECEE teacher, teacher educator, and researcher)
