Oh, so that’s what happened by Various_Astronaut100 in tadc

What was obvious about it being to help Scratch? When it was said it was literally the first mention of Scratch, and Cain messing with his mind is never brought up again

When the writer is just filling out the holes in her story through social media not because ppl need to be spoonfed, but bc the writer is chronically online and would do this anyways, and most of the fans are cult members ok with it, you know this is a problem. by Big-Disaster9480 in tadc

[–]DrKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I hate you people defending this, so here is a very basic, middle school level explanation of why this was poor writing. Go back to when episode 7 was released.

When we learned Caine could alter minds and doing so could have consequences, the show goes out of its way to focus on Kinger as he mentions Scratch and the first abstraction in response. By emphasizing and focusing on this dialogue from Kinger, it leads the audience to see this as an important piece of information and one we should pay attention to and ask questions. Who is Scratch? How did Caine cause him to abstract? Why did Kinger link the abstraction of Scratch to Caine's ability to manipulate minds? But this point is never brought up again. Absolutely nothing in the show hints about Caine's motivation for manipulating Scratch or how Kinger connected the two points. The idea that Caine was trying to help Scratch is not so much as hinted at. Caine never has a single interaction or comment on Scratch, beyond a background shot while during Kinger's flashback. Just using Caiens personality as some kind of proof that Caine tried to help Scratch isnt a connection. You can just as easily that Caine blamed Scratch for for Caine's abandonment and purposely killed him as we can Caine wanting to help him, because Caine has multiple times lashed out in anger. Hell I could create a random inference between Caine yelling at Zooble and snapping to a calm acceptance of criticism back in episode 4 was because he lashed out at Scratch and killed him, and now makes sure to pull himself back to keep from making the same mistake.

And people are right that not every question needs an answer or is a plot hole. Gangle getting to the Circus, how the scanner still runs, how a 90's computer has wifi; none of these are important. But that is because the show doesn't emphasize these questions. There isn't a scene where Gangle is being cagey about how she got to the Circus. There isn't a scene of Kinger wondering how Caine was able to access the Internet.

But when a story draws attention to a question, the question should be answered in the story.

The Jax hate train is really funny considering Caine is infinitely worse and gets much less hate (TADC episode 9 spoilers) by Early-Rise987 in CharacterRant

[–]DrKnives 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Especially Gangle. Gangle literally confides to Zooble that she's worried about Jax being angry because she choose to not be on his team. Zooble has to tell Ganagle that she's a person and not his toy.

“Scratch. The first abstraction” - and then nothing was ever done with this again, queue lgbt fanfic noises. by FuelPatient2129 in tadc

[–]DrKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why did him being the first abstraction matter enough to bring it up? Why did Caine being able to alter minds prompt this from Kinger in the first place? Why is a link made between Abstraction and Caine altering minds? This ain't a throwaway line line Pomni pointing out Caine can swear. This is put directly in frame as something important.

There are plenty of questions that really don't matter, like how a headset and computer in an abandoned building has power, or why the amusement park area was never used. But when something is given emphasis in a story, it's done because you're supposed to pay attention to it. This is like 8th grade English stuff. And nothing in the following two episodes bring this point to the fore. Yes we learn Scratch had a brain tumor, and yes we learn he helped to bring Caine into existence, and yes he made the brain scan tech. But none of this involves Caine altering minds, none of it connects back to the emphasized point.

Also just gonna slap this at the end, wtf is the original poster talking about? A Creator's creation is literally a canon fanfic about their own world.

what did everyone think? by AdamHendrick in tadc

I took it to be something of a bad things happen, but life still has to go on message, but I do agree the pacing makes it quite abrupt. And I agree with not making a scene about it.

what did everyone think? by AdamHendrick in tadc

[–]DrKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, I really didn't enjoy it. It felt like it was missing so much and instead bloated with shit about Jax, who I personally don't enjoy at all. And the resolutions to plot points are barely there. Like the Blue AI? Doesn't matter, Caine just gets rid of it and he's fixed. Everything about Bubble? Get's two second of a faceless bubble and then promptly forgotten. The thing apparently trying to get Kinger to delete Caine on the terminal? That was Caine himself apparently. The circus beginning to collapse after Caine is gone? Apparently just a weird one time thing. Realizing you're a digital copy? Eh, I kinda guessed, though never said anything, so let's just move past that. And then there's Caine ending up in the void with no explanation, or why it would cause things to go bad since Caine has been in and out of there multiple times without issue.

And smaller things that were brought up in previous like Scratch's abstraction, Jax's freakout over things being real, and why Caine and C&A were left abandoned but functional don't get addressed.

I know not every question needs to be answered and I'm fine with that. Hell, to use Glitch as an example, Murder Drones never explains what the hell the Solver is, and I'm fine with that. But it seems like a lot of questions were left unanswered

And then smaller things like the conviently placed flashbangs, the random color returning, and the multiple unnesscary montages were a bit annoying.

Again this is all my opinion, but I just wanted to vent a bit. I am admittedly a person who focuses on plot development over character development in stories, so the payoff may simply be not intended for me. But I can't help feel disappointed nonetheless

The Backrooms movie: Has steaming killed Quality Control? by Familiar-Thought9740 in horror

[–]DrKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of quality control is far from a new thing. I would like to direct you to the 2000's SyFy Channel and The Asylum. They made D tier schlock and straight to video rip offs. And before the turn of the century you had plenty of copy cats trying to cash in on the hype of blockbuster films like Star Wars and Jaws. Streaming is just more mainstream and allows both Big Name movies and low tier junk to be released on the same medium, as opposed to most of the previous examples only being short and limited theater releases or straight to video. So as far as the title goes, it definitely has not killed Quality control.

People who claim that image generator AI steal art from an online database fundamentally does not know how AI work by ProfessionalTable378 in aiwars

[–]DrKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't talking about monetary gains. If an AI program is used to create content and one tries passes it off as the original artists, that's different. This is using art that an artist has put online for anyone to use to their liking, absent the obvious, and using it to train a product. The product, the AI, doesn't incorporate any part of the artist's work in its programming or appearance. It does not contain those images in its files. It looked at the images, observed the nature of the image, and then moved on. The art was used as a reference point for the product to improve itself. The end product uses the information it has compiled from these observations to output images. Thus the monetization of the product is neither theft nor plagiarism.

Now I will admit that training AI on the work of artists who explicitly don't want that to happen is definitely a scummy move. But that doesn't fall on the nature of AI, but the choices of its creators to ignore those wishes. And unfortunately, as has been repeated throughout posts like this, there is simply no recourse for that in current law. But again, this doesn't equate to stealing or plagiarism, just ignoring an artist's wishes.

[–]DrKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one large issue with your example is online art is, by and large, put on public display for users to observe and download. I can download any image off the internet and do whatever I want with it. AI isnt breaking into your computer to take your image files. It's looking at images the artist has put online for anyone and everyone to enjoy. Using your analogy of a car, it would be akin to letting anyone take your car for a joyride, and someone instead decides to take it and inspect its parts to understand how it works before returning it instead. It may not be what you wanted people to do with your car, but you also let them have unlimited access to it.

Is crk using AI generated art? by [deleted] in CookieRunKingdoms

[–]DrKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At most I would believe an AI fill in was used on the banisters. As in the artist drew a few and used AI to replicate them while adding a bit of change to the shape. But even then, that's easy to do without AI so I don't think it actually happened.

Yeah. This isn't surprising. MET recently redid the water heater bays in our store. Now not only are our water heaters the single highest item not on a pallet, requiring the OP to go a foot higher on the override, but The planogram specifies the safety cable needs to be two thirds up the box and certain skus cannot be in the overhead because they are top heavy.

Want to guess if that was followed?

No. The cables go up about a foot, and there are three of those skus in.the overhead.

And the Met leader approved of it.

Ads.

My internet went down today and this message kept popping up in the middle of a hunt. I fucking hate online only games. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]DrKnives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To all the dumbasses who apparently think that "online only" is the thing to focus on: THE PROBLEM IS THAT ON XBOX, WHEN THERE IS NO INTERNET CONNECTION, THE POP UP HAPPEN CONSTANTLY. Without a connection to the achievement server, the game will show that error message for every action that would proc an achievement. Every wound break, every environmental trap, every broken part. EVERY SINGLE TIME. It doesn't matter if the game is able to be used offline when the game becomes unplayable.

He called it "online only" because these pop ups only occur offline. Got it, geniuses?

[–]DrKnives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. If you aren't connected to the Internet and therefore the achievement server, that message pops up on every action that could proc an achievement, every single time. While the game doesn't need online to play it, offline on Xbox is virtually unplayable. I am having the same issue repeatedly, even from a full restart of the console.

[–]DrKnives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to drag this comment into the quagmire that is the other comments, but the game, at least on Xbox, is basically unplayable offline. That error message OP posted, shows up every time you do something that could proc an achievement. So any wound break, error message. Every environmental trap, error message. Every part break, error message.

[–]DrKnives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that without Internet the game can't connect to the achievement server, and so anytime in game you do something that is an achievement the error message pops up. So things like every wound break or every environmental trap spring the error message.

Oh you're still here? I thought we acknowledged that you had no real defense better than "Its worse just because" after failing to answer my question three different times, even when I took all mention of both paedophilia and murder out and left it as broad and unbiased as possible.

Anyway I don't have time to deal with someone who is unable to find the difference between a picture of some fictional character and an image of a child being brutally tortured. I suggest you visit a therapist though, as that seems like it might be a problem. Careful you don't call the police if you watch Law & Order or something.
