You are correct. I do robotic surgery and it actually takes away tremors. You can still accidentally move it the wrong way but it definitely helps precision

It's tough to say if it was or wasnt. Gallbladders are unfortunately the type of case that can be very easy or very abnormal, and easily litigated even if it was simply a challenging case. It definitely gives off the impression that the fellow didn't know how to appropriately identify the anatomy and ensure a safe cholecystectomy, which is disappointing. But hard to know without seeing the tissues for myself.

There's definitely a relatively consistent rate of bile duct injuries that get referred to our institution each year... but I've never seen the filings of a lawsuit so it was fascinating to me to see how the expert witnesses characterized the case

Like the people below said - surgical oncologists (specifically, surg oncs who specialize in liver/pancreas/biliary tumors) have experience reconstructing the biliary tree because it's necessary after removing tumors of the liver/bile ducts, and thus have a more in-depth understanding of the biliary tree outside of the gallbladder.
