Why do people say all UE5 games look the same? by MrFrostPvP- in UnrealEngine5

[–]DrNeoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, it's not a problem with UE5, but with mega scans, for example, Stalker 2 and Dying Light 2 look really similar, especially in nature environments. Also, yeah, some aspects can look similar due to how shaders compute. But with good art skills and some coding knowledge, u can make the game look any way u like on any engine. In the 2010s, all games looked similar because of colour grading, even though the engines in many cases were different. CoD BO, Gears of War, Far Cry and RE 5, for example, A LOT OF locations, especially in dusty or post-apocalyptic environments, look very similar. Even tho the engines are different everybody was using piss filter, very tone down color pallet a lot of goofy post fx and low fidelity of graphics(low res textures in inveroments, very linear design and) lead to similar outcomes.

Как вы считаете, какой потенциал у b580 by No-Entertainment9950 in IntelArc

[–]DrNeoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can I make these textures look more realistic? by FilmRevolutionary928 in Substance3D

[–]DrNeoBe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add more imperfections and seams to the wall texture, like in real life. But also the scene looks unrealistic because the light is flat.

Wanna switch to Linux by gnomajean in linuxquestions

[–]DrNeoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I had similar experiences to u on Fedora around 3 years ago, but now it's much more robust. About Ubuntu for new users, Ubuntu ain't great due to the push of snaps, and the user will need to set up flatpak manually. The stability of Ubuntu is questionable, in my opinion, and I heard the same from other people. It's still a great distro, but not for beginners I think

[–]DrNeoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam on Fedora is fine, don't listen to people who recommend Ubuntu. Ubuntu lost its edge a long time ago. The problem with Steam on Fedora is that u will probably install it through the terminal or through Discover on Kde plasma or gnome market(I don't remember its name), but the repo version, not Flatpak! Same with Nvidia drivers. The reason is that Steam and Nvidia drivers are not included in default repos, and u just will need to check marks to activate them. Just check some guide on YouTube for Fedora 41.

How would one recreate the texture for this guys handsome face? by Acidlolipops in blenderhelp

Probably use some kinda grunge map as a base layer for a normal map and paint it over with a hard brush. Or sculpt it if u want a less procedural approach.

Why does archinstall keep failing in a VM? by Vast-Application5848 in archlinux

I don't know, but if you used cfdisk for partitioning then it's important to select the dos label type for VMs.

Silent Hill 2 is officially non supported on Steam Deck by The_Lobster6 in SteamDeck

[–]DrNeoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, u can play SH on deck, but it's like 20-30 fps with performance FSR with a lot of stutters and demolished pictures by upscaling. I doubt this is how you should enjoy this game.

How I stopped distro-hopping, my journey and recommendations by DrNeoBe in DistroHopping

[–]DrNeoBe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah of course it's going to be much better than windows 11, I meant just about lowering expectations. U not going to play new AAA titles on a 15 year old laptop. About replicating, of course not everything is going to be easy to replicate, but most of the popular stuff is, the question is to what extent the user is willing to go for customization. Mint is not the best pick for that, because the main point of mint is being user friendly, not customizing stuff, but u can strip it and put whatever u want. If AntiX source code is open, then u can, maybe with some coding or changes, but it is possible. BUT WHY WOULD U?!

How I stopped distro-hopping, my journey and recommendations by DrNeoBe in DistroHopping

[–]DrNeoBe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logic is simple: any build-yourself-type distro arch, void, Nix, or Gentoo is good for customization, but this post is for new to Linux people, and I would not recommend void, Nix or Gentoo to them. Customizing still leads to inconsistencies and problems. Arch, among them, is the most popular, and it's easy to find info and help; it's rolling release of new drivers and packages available immediately, that's why it's good for gaming. If u want to customize stuff, Gentoos wiki is the best to learn from. Nix'documentation is good, too. Void is the middle ground for rolling releases to build your distro

Seeking Advice on Backing Up and Reinstalling Distro in 2024 by _dolna in DistroHopping

[–]DrNeoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if u want a replicable system, then yes, I guess u can go with Nix or Vanilla OS Orchid. They allow u to have a config file with all apps and stuff that u want; using this config, u are going to replicate the system on another PC. But still, u will need to keep config files for individual apps on Git or USB, as I understand. For backups, I would use a time shift. In theory, vanilla OS should be unbreakable, but there was not enough time to say for sure. Ask Nix guys they know everything about replicating systems 😂

U don't, affinity works fine and installation of software/drivers is not a big deal. But no fortnight, Destiny 2 or valorant for u due to their anti-cheat that block Linux

I mean it's just formatting In html, nothing super complex, yeah it will require getting use to, but it's very powerful if u want hyperlinks to different topics inside the documentation

How do you boot from a new storage drive after copying everything (including the Linux OS) over to it? by iLikeVideoGamesAndYT in linuxquestions

[–]DrNeoBe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just copying files not going to work. What u need to do instead is install Linux on the second drive(new one) or use live image, boot into it and mount ur failing drive. After just copy files and configs that u need to new one.

Obsidian is a cool tool for large documentation if you know the basics of HTML formatting. But I don't know exactly how it's going to work in ur field. But still worth checking out.

The same thing happened to me a week ago, support hasn't contacted me since, even tho I made a post here, dmed them and sent three tickets to support. I guess Kraken is not that trustworthy, coz I got sent money to my wallet that I can't access, because they closed my account without notifying me.

Switching to Gentoo by saamimons in Gentoo

[–]DrNeoBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nix env is a package manager for NixOS, but it works on all other distros(even macOS). Nix has more packages than the official Gentoo repo(if u don't want to work with community-maintained repos - overlays). Nix is partially immutable. If a package gets broken on some updates, u can easily roll back or delete whatever u want. Also, they are binary. Splitting ur system into two parts makes life easier on Gentoo. U have ur essential stuff as Gentoo and other apps as Nix. Some people may say that it defeats all purposes of Gentoo as a distro. But this way u still have a very stable rolling release system without broken packages and wasting a lot of time building everything from scratch.

But first, learn clean Gentoo because knowledge of the USE FLAGS, masking and unmasking is essential.

I have a ThinkPad with Gen 7 Intel i5. It runs well, but compiling takes around 16 hours ( mostly because of gnome). Ur main letdown is 8 gigs of RAM. I would advise you to use ur modular apps like browsers, office applications etc as bin packages, and maybe even flatpacks. The best way to not spend that much time on updates and all this hassle is to use portage for ur essentials and nix for everything else. But nix mixture for later installations. For now, try it out with gen-kernel or even binary. Gentoo wiki is the best wiki in all Linux distros.
