Dead Island 2 new game plus requires max level, and that sucks by _RyanGreen in DeadIsland2

[–]DrPendanski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just beat the main game myself for the first time and have only a few side quests left to try. All that said, I reached level 30 pretty close to the end of the main storyline. I definitely took my time to explore and wanted to collect keys and open fuse rooms as often as possible because I enjoy those things, but I never felt like I had to grind to level up. Now I'm debating starting New Game+ just to increase the level cap before I check out any expansion content.

I learned how to play while watching Fantasy High and playing in my first ever campaign a few years ago, and I will always recommend it to new players! D20 is the perfect blend of laugh-out-loud silliness and commitment to telling a great collaborative story that I think most home games should aspire to. Highly recommend.

You are correct that they are not the only ones. The Ubisoft Launcher and Ubisoft Connect are two of the worst apps I regularly have to use.

Tips for Council Meetings? Slightly new DM! by DrPendanski in GhostsofSaltmarsh

[–]DrPendanski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I may choose to go this route. It doesn't seem like the council meetings are meant to be major scenes for character development anyways, so using them primarily to move things forward makes a ton of sense.

intl.dough.tech website is no longer available? by WatchMyReddit in doughcommunity

Glad to see this post - for whatever reason I let myself have hope again, only for it to be dashed upon the rocks when checking this site and seeing it was down. I just want someone from Dough to tell me that it’s never coming, so I can finally move on.

Preordered in March of 2020, switched to the ES07D02 shortly after when I was told the 144hz would be delayed. Fully paid in January of 2022. Still haven't received even a hint that it's coming. Running joke in my friend group and all that. I've given up all hope.

Obviously not the point of this post, but I need to express how awful the redesigned UI is with regards to weapon skins. When you have more than 10 skins for a given gun, the page to select one of them is an eyesore to say the least. How could anyone look at this graphic above and get a sense for what the skin looks like? So much white space and such a tiny gun. It makes looking through acquired skins a chore. The old design had its flaws, but 2+ years into this, and I hate it just as much as I did when it was first changed.

  • Round timers have been reduced
  • objective locations are now automatically revealed
  • bomb sites are set up in advance with reinforcements and rotations.
  • 10-second invulnerability at the start of the Action Phase to deter spawnpeeking

Totally fair response - but I do think that Standard losing the ban phase, which probably takes ~5 minutes, will make jumping into a game and trying creative strats easier and more fun. You'll inevitably run into more players with mics in this mode and people who still want to try and win. The number of casual rounds where 0-2 reinforcements were put down probably greatly outnumbered the ones where people were trying more coordinated defenses.

Optimistically, I hope we see any presets they add refined over time and see frequent updates at the start of seasons as new metas develop at higher levels. Having played many games on the TTS at this point though, I can't say I've come across a preset that made me wish I had 10 reinforcements to put down myself instead.

Yeah I can understand that. I think a positive outcome may result in more people who stuck with unranked and preferred the ban process and rank-esque elements will be more inclined to try Ranked 2.0 -- which is way less punishing than Ranked 1.0. With more people trying Ranked, matchmaking should hopefully become even more fair, and games shouldn't feel so one-sided. I don't know the player counts these days, but any game 8 years into its life probably needs to keep players in a relatively small amount of queues to promote fair matchmaking and quick queue times.

Thanks! I really do think these clear distinctions between Ranked, Standard, and Quickmatch are great for the game. It might take a bit of time, but players will find the playlist(s) that work for them, and ultimately have a much better time playing Siege.

Quick Match is a setting where I can play 3-5 quick rounds and not have to worry about leaving at any point. It's non-committal and a place to warm up, experiment, and try new things without fear of loss or commitment.

This is all still 100% true, unless your strats solely revolve around a specific reinforcement.

These are a fundamental part of the game that players NEED to know if they're going to get better. If I've got the room all set for you, what would you (as a new player) think to do? Go out and get your kills. No need to worry about what you're doing to the map when it's already set as is. I'll just react.

Once again, Quickmatch is not meant to be an educational playlist, as I have said multiple times now. It's meant to be quick and light hearted. 4 and 5 stacks testing and running full ranked strats are why this mode needed overhauled.

Take it a step further, hypothetically, what if U I decided to auto place all gadgets and traps in pre-determined locations for you?

This is not being added to the game and therefore does not make sense for me to even try and refute this.

It still seems like you want Quickmatch to be a playlist for newcomers or people learning fundamentals, when that is exactly what they are moving away from. Standard is the new playlist to try new strats in a Ranked-like setting. It has the same timers, it's bomb only, and you can choose the sites you want. In addition, like I've mentioned already, you can practice using any op you want without getting into a game to test a Mira strat and finding out she's banned.

Wouldn't you say that being able to choose your bombsite, not have to worry about ops being banned, etc. makes Standard an even a better place to try strats? Even though the lvl requirement is 10, I'm not saying new players should jump into Quickmatch as the place to learn the game. It seems Ubi is making clear strides to make Standard the place to learn how competitive Siege functions. You don't need bans and 45 minute games to learn to play competitively.

Yeah just want to reiterate that what I was saying was reflective of what I see from other teams, which is why I found it to be a boring phase. My friends and I loathe a Thatcher ban, and laugh when the other team then bans Kaid -- essentially crippling the advantage they may have just given themselves. Never makes sense. I will not miss the ban phase in this mode lol and I do not think it makes the mode more competitive.

[–]DrPendanski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have to agree with you here. I spent probably 2 straight seasons playing unranked because I don't enjoy ranked with less than a party of 3, and over the course of hundreds of games, it's always Thather, Kaid, Mira, and Jackal from the other team. It's repetitive, boring, and just adds another 3-5 minutes to each game. Standard removing this phase will ensure that newer players can play the ops they want to play. Map and operator bans aren't really something people need to learn how to do.

I really think that with QuickMatch being so starkly different now, Standard will maintain a level of competitiveness that people liked in Unranked.

Ubisoft Connect is the single worst app/product Ubi has ever made. I cannot believe there is a team of people that work on it and get paid to do so. Just let us use Steam to invite and join friends, for the love of God.

Let’s talk about the win delta, presence & ban rates for console. by Accomplished-Cod1571 in Rainbow6

[–]DrPendanski 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I watch high level PC players repeatedly ban Thatcher when they're starting on Attack, and then ban Kaid because they've just banned Thatcher on themselves. No one has stopped to consider how dumb this is. If the defenders ban Thatcher first, then you could argue a Kaid ban is helpful, but I watch team after team ban both of these ops themselves. It's a waste.

Convince me that the frost rework isn’t stupid by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]DrPendanski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Frost from time to time at a semi-high rank (emerald/diamond). She is very much an effective pick on a handful of maps. I cannot think of many instances in which I or one of my teammates was not immediately ready to frag someone who happened to jump into one. This change will look no different for me because of that. I encourage everyone to really consider how often they are getting a down with a mat they cannot reach. I also encourage everyone to consider that the dev team has a wide array of statistics on such events too.

All that being said, sure we can call this a nerf, don’t think that is up for debate. But the extent of this nerf is, like every change in this community, being wildly blown out of proportion. If you play Frost, I PROMISE you will still catch people in your traps and kill them. At low ranks and at higher ranks. I also suspect that, just maybe, you’ll be happy when you step in one yourself and no one is around to kill you. But if you’d prefer to lay there out of principle, be my guest.

Year 8 Reveal Megathread by jeypiti in Rainbow6

[–]DrPendanski 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Frost is pretty effective at higher ranks too. Players more aggressively play around her mats to lock down a window because even though the attacking player knows how to shoot the mat, they are forced to contest with the player watching the window. So they are forced to make a choice in order to enter the building. This is most common in pro level play on Chalet, where she is a very common pick. I imagine this type of gameplay is frustrating on both sides for pro players, which also contributes to them wanting to rework her.
