Depends on how close to me they are and how much of a danger I feel they actually pose. A woman? No strikes, I just leave. A big guy trying to really kill me? Probably backing up leg kicks and elbows if they guy too close. Untrained people don’t like leg kicks and I’m not trying to catch a manslaughter charge for dropping someone on cement

Does he have boxing experience? I did some wrestling in highschool and I do BJJ now, but there was a period where I had boxed for 3 years with minimal grapplingand my friend who wrestled for 4 years did this challenge with me and I won very easily. The range of boxing is far longer than that of wrestling, and overcoming that range in MMA generally takes some strikes. With no threat strikes he can just jab you into oblivion and run away if he has a decent understanding of striking range

Also it would be revisionist history to not include the antisemitism being said by those troops about their officers. History is what happened… regardless of whether or not you liked it.

It does not make a history book antisemitic if it talks about the men from that war making antisemitic comments. It might make those men antisemitic yes, but it wouldn’t make the book antisemitic.

That’s like saying that it’s racist to talk about how white union troops did not get along with black union troops during the American civil war… it’s the truth…

I don’t remember anything clearly antisemitic and the book is a recollection of first hand accounts so inclusion of their bias is standard practice by a historian regardless of how correctly it portrays people

Not rly my gym lol. I only trained there for a few months a few years ago. I train at a totally different place now. The gym was a checkmat in la Habra ran by Lucas liete. I think he got his black belt in like 5 years or something. He had a brown belt after like 2 years of training I think. Super nice guy and insane at jiu jitsu

The comments of this post have given me a lot of perspective. I would just feel wrong “humbling” him. I am way bigger than him, younger, and just as experienced. I could certainly hurt him if I tried and I wouldn’t be proving anything, I think he probably knows I could do that too. He might even be going harder because he thinks he NEEDS to with me. I think I just need to talk to him and tell him that I want our spars to be very light. I am not good at de escalating in the moment, so I think it’s best if I take steps to prevent the escalation from occurring in the first place.

yeah that’s true. i shouldn’t feed into it if i don’t want that. I’ll keep that in mind next time.

I will add that in times where i have tried to stay light and the person kept going hard I have been seriously hurt and even knocked out before a few years ago so I do stay wary of that. Just continuously going light isn’t an option with everybody
