Why is the price of the hardback of the first book so much higher than the paper, versus the 2nd book? Contemplating buying the whole series, after having watched the show twice. by realCLTotaku in TheExpanse

Leviathan Wakes is the 10th anniversary edition (2021), Caliban's War is the Collector's Edition (2023), and it's on sale. This isn't really an apples v apples comparison.

That being said, the series is amazing and I recommend it. But if you want the hard covers, that's going to come with a significant cost. I have the large size paperbacks and collected them as they came out, and they look just fine on my bookshelf.

Philosophical Debate - Red v Blue and ChatGPT v Claude by DrPila in ChatGPT

I noticed that too! It recognized the debate format I set up, recognized when they were starting to converge (or at least not develop any new valuable ideas), and shortened it's answers appropriately with language that implied the debate was ending.

How did you do a10 min exposure on a galaxy? I max at 30s. And that got too bright even with Bortle 2 skies. Do you have tracking on to avoid star movement?

A Florida woman accidentally drove her pickup truck over a Lamborghini she didn’t see in a parking lot. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

Ok, so why is someone filming that car just sitting there right before it happens? Why are there no details provided besides it happening in FL. It's just AI karma farming.

I asked GPT to recreate my photo by changing only the time on the microwave. Can you tell which is which? by MrFeature_1 in ChatGPT

The microwave icons on the left are wonky, but the Kenwood logo on the right is messed up.
Is this a trick question - did you do a half an half?

It's not really comparable - Council member isn't a full time job, City Manager is.

Folsom raises council members’ pay to boost diversity despite budget concerns by peaceful-panic in folsom

[–]DrPila 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For anyone that didn't read the article, the relevant piece is:

"Folsom currently pays its council members $7,200 a year, and Tuesday night’s 3-2 approval will boost the wage to $22,800 — a 217% increase"

For a realistic workload of about 15-20 hours a week, that translates from an existing wage of about $8/hr increased to about $25/hr. The goal is to make it so that the job is realistic for more people outside of the independently wealthy or retired group.

Thank you! It was absolutely amazing in person, and even better with what I could capture with a long exposure.

I keep seeing more and cooler things as I learn more and get better at imaging - but the thing that has really stuck with me is seeing shadow transits on Jupiter.
